Warning to ELCA Churches From Former Grace Lutheran (Eau Claire) President

The email below and the attachments included were sent this week to the entire Northwest Wisconsin Synod directory (Pastors, Youth Leaders, Office Staff) on the eve of the Synod's annual assembly this weekend in Eau Claire by Anne Carter, the former president of Grace Lutheran Church.

To all this concerns:

It is important that every member of the Northwest Synod of Wisconsin of the ELCA understand the recent decisions made by the Synod Council against Grace Lutheran Church, Eau Claire, WI. To that end, attached to this email are three letters.

The first, from Grace Lutheran leadership, outlines compliance with a decision made by the Synod Council in January 2012. (see here) The second, from the Council to Grace, contradicts that compliance and dictates a new set of directives. (See here) The last letter questions those directives and details the consequences of those directives on Grace members and the community of Eau Claire. (See here)

Please read through the letters carefully. They are sent to you so that you will understand that if this happened to Grace Lutheran Church, it will happen to you.

Anne Carter exposes the incestuous, incompetent, and heartless aspects of the ELCA NW Wisconsin Synod's Star Chamber decisions:

• Bishop Duane Pederson is formerly of First Lutheran Church, Eau Claire, WI; Assistant to the Bishop Amy Odgren is from First Lutheran Church; Synod Council Vice President Lynn Fering is a member of First Lutheran Church; attorney for the NW Synod, Tom Guelzow, is a member of First Lutheran Church; Amazing Grace ELCA, Inc. has been holding services at First Lutheran Church.

• Ramie Bakken, representing the NW Synod, sent out letters that encouraged reconciliation. She claimed that the invitations were sent to all Grace members, but those letters were not sent to associate members. Some of those letters were, however, sent to Grace members who are deceased.

• The doors of Grace Lutheran Church have been locked for over a month. No one has been allowed access to remove personal property from the building. Because of the lockdown the food pantry, third largest in Eau Claire, has been unused; all anonymous groups that met in the building have been forced to find other accommodations; Boy Scout Troop 36 has also been forced to meet elsewhere and all their materials were being held; the ham radio group has not been able to meet at all because Grace leadership will not release their equipment."

The sole, two-sentence entry on the Grace Lutheran website breathlessly announces that Amazing Greed will finally be holding a service at the church: "Please join our worship service scheduled to be held at Grace Lutheran Church this Sunday June 2, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. This joyous return includes a handbell choir under the direction of Norma Lionberger."

If Amazing Greed's covetous insurrectionists can cart a few carloads of First Lutheran congregants to Grace, maybe they'll fill more than two pews. One wonders if the handbell choir will be imported from First Lutheran.

Amazing Greed's website has no word, predictably, on the current sad fates of the shuttered food pantry and the dispossessed civic groups (and their locked-up belongings) that used to meet at Grace.

What a terrible plight for Eau Claire's hungry to run afoul of the "tender mercies" of the merciless ELCA.
