The "Spirit" Led the ELCA to Endorse Homosexuality, Bashing the President, and Turning Ezra on Its Ear...All in One Article

The below article is from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's national magazine. Note how the author thinks the Bible was wrong in forbidding foreign marriage in the book of Ezra. Even more tragic, note how he believes the Holy Spirit is responsible for the ELCA's 2009 decision to affirm homosexuality.

The darkness and rebellion in the ELCA is becoming greater and greater.

It does not take long to find the overt fallacy in Mr. Zimmann's logic, because the title gives it away: the "bigger table" approach that has led, paradoxically but inevitably, to "a smaller church." Bigger table => smaller church. And he is just fine with that, and with the trend that leads to all table but no church. All manners, no morals. Open seating, but no event.

Elcanites, after decades under such propaganda, it might be hard to see past it, to think outside of the merger paradigm, but consider this, in terms that might sound familiar: SUPPOSE THEY GAVE A MERGER AND NOBODY CAME? That is your reality here and now.

If you want to find out more, start with the Scriptures that Mr. Zimmann has twisted, and read what they really say: how Ezra 9-10 is not about ethnic cleansing, but about preaching repentance and not letting 113 syncretists derail a nation's commitment (in a nutshell, they could be pagan or Godly, but not both). Read about the real Jesus Christ and his real messengers who call us out of our wicked generations, who say that "many are called, but few are chosen" (in a nutshell, we can be saved or lost, but not both). There is a reason there is no "Thou shalt merge" commandment, but always a salvation that sets apart.

Elcanites, suppose the ELCA published a magazine but nobody subscribed? Suppose they ran seminaries but nobody enrolled? Suppose they held a merger, but nobody came? That is your reality check.

You can be saved or lost, pagan or Godly, but not both. The same goes for your pastor, your choir, your friends & family, your journalists, your synod, in fact everyone everywhere, including yours truly. I am saved, I am merged with the saved people, and I will never again be merged with the lost people, numerous though they may be. Jesus says that is what it means to choose Him. I have made my choice. What will be yours?

I had to read this article twice before I could believe my eyes. So the prophet Ezra wanted to "Make Israel Great Again"? The Holy Spirit is for openly gay clergy? Living Lutheran is not some obscure blog -- it is the main publication of the ELCA. I am not one who believes in "Scripture Alone" because as Luther taught, everyone can interpret the Bible as he pleases. I believe that the truth can be found in both Scripture and Tradition. And both are violated by this silly article.

As a 1968 graduate of the former Gettysburg Theological Seminary, I must inform the new Alumni Director of the merged seminary (with Philadelphia) that his article nearly made me sick. Therefore, I would like my name removed from all future mailings, and I certainly will not consider the United Lutheran Seminary for a line in my will.

The ELCA's solipsistic Sola Feels hermeneutic always tries to co-opt God into its sin: “We — and the world we serve — are quite fond of our favorite sins. Ergo, God made us this way, and He smiles benevolently on our sins. We blithely ignore the Bible’s clear condemnations of our sins because we've arrogated to ourselves the right to sit in judgment on the Bible; the Bible doesn't dare judge us.”

The Pharisees ascribed the authorship of Jesus' work to Satan: "He casts out demons by the prince of demons."

The ELCA ascribes the authorship of Bible-proscribed sexual sin -- Satan's work -- to the Holy Spirit.

There's no material difference in these ascriptions.
