When Columbus Day rolls around each year, you can count on one thing: the ELCA will be denouncing it. So it was, yesterday, when Women of the ELCA (WELCA) published an article by an author whom WELCA says "...makes an argument for changing the name Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples' Day in every state." (See here or below)
It seems the ELCA's Northwest Washington Synod would like to rename Columbus Day to "Native American Day." (See below) If you would like to read a couple of healthy perspectives on the realities of the day and the man who is remembered and celebrated on Columbus Day, check out these articles: - Christopher Columbus: A Sinner With A Heart for Frontier Missions - Columbus was Awesome - Indigenous Peoples Day vs Columbus Day Below is the WELCA article being shared by the ELCA's Northern Great Lakes Synod: From a soon-to-be ELCA pastor: And from an ELCA pastor:

Why bother attending a church that's indistinguishable from the world? ELCA members would be more honestly served by buying the New York Times, watching CNN, listening to NPR, and logging onto the Democratic Party's news feed: https://democrats.org/news/ . The ELCA's agenda -- abortion on demand, sexual libertinism, socialism, anti-Semitism, SJW activism, et al. -- is identical to the Democratic Party's, so who needs to attend and support a progressive church to hear Party/media talking points regurgitated from the pulpit with a little garnish of generic god talk?

To quote Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, if Caesar had been one of these people, it wouldn't have been "Veni, vidi, vici," it would have been "Veni, vidi, vici, [I felt really bad about it]."

I am in the early chapters of "A Pilgrimage to Eternity." It is written by a long lapsed and wounded Roman Catholic named Timothy Egan. I am interested to see where his pilgrimage on the Via Francigena (Canterbury to Rome) will take him. Right out of the starting gate in Canterbury, he describes his visit to the great cathedral with a description of its current Archbishop-The Most Rev, Justin Welby: "Welby is a sad-faced, late middle-aged cleric who is so self-effacing you want to slap him..." Egan goes on to list all the events and situations of past and current history for which the Archbishop spends an inordinate amount of time "begging pardon." This tradition and its modern allies have no hope, no faith, no real anything of the Good News of Jesus Christ to offer this fallen world. A "going out of business sale" seems already in progress.

Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
