Not One ELCA Pastor Willing to Stand Up For Biblical Marriage

Over 500 Pastors signed a document from “Minnesota Pastors for Marriage.” (see here) “These 500+ Christian faith leaders joined together to state that their love for God, His Word, and their neighbor lead them to vote YES on Amendment 1.” (read here) The Minnesota Marriage Amendment (Amendment 1), which will be voted upon next week, seeks “to place the traditional definition of marriage – one man and one woman – into (the Minnesota) state constitution.” (read here)

Of the over 500+ pastors who signed this letter, I did not find one ELCA pastor on the list. There were many pastors from the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, but NONE from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

What does that tell you about today’s ELCA leaders?

The Bible-annulling ELCA bishops and pastors continue to be poster children for Hosea's imperative: "Ephraim is joined to idols. Let him alone."

These 500+ Minnesota pastors on the Minnesota for Marriage website aren't the only faithful shepherds supporting God's design for marriage.

The Transform Minnesota network -- representing nine evangelical denominations and 160 churches (mine among them) -- is also taking a public Biblical stance for marriage and the MN Marriage Protection Amendment.

Raymond C. Kuntz, board chair, and Carl H. Nelson, president and CEO of Transform Minnesota, write in the November 4 Minneapolis Star Tribune:

". . . In "Why Marriage Matters [ http://www.familyministries.org/files/MarriageMatters_final.pdf ]," researchers conclude that "whether American society succeeds or fails in building a healthy marriage culture is clearly a matter of legitimate public concern."

"Marriage is an important social institution, and healthy marriages can provide better outcomes for children, women and men. How you vote on the marriage amendment is an important public-policy decision that impacts children's lives, our schools, communities and social services.

"As the evangelical network representing nine evangelical denominations and 160 churches, Transform Minnesota believes that evangelical Christians should vote "yes" for the marriage amendment, certainly because our faith informs what we believe marriage to be, but specifically because the evidence shows us that marriage is a public good of such great importance that it deserves to be defined in our Constitution. And as you vote, make a commitment to love, welcome and respect all people as human beings made in the image of God."

Billy Graham has a full page ad on page 7A of today's St Paul Pioneer Press (a rather high circluation newspaper).

He said to vote for Biblical values, for those who support Israel and for those who support the biblical definition of marriage.

Page 9A has the review of the Madonna concert in St Paul. It noted that she told the audience to vote for Obama and against the marriage amendment.

Seriously...it is kind of sad that the ELCA is all out against Billy Graham, but in lockstep with Madonna.

That same full-page ad ran on page 12A of the Minneapolis Star Tribune. So do we heed hedonistic Madonna and her like-minded kin in the ELCA, or do we heed the biblical counsel of Billy Graham?

I'll follow the man who leads people to Jesus over the church that has created a "Jesus" in its own image.
