Almost every other month we get another group of Evangelical Lutheran Church in America bishops and pastors publically advocating for same-sex marriage and calling on voters to do that same. This time it is comes from the state of Illinois.
Twenty-seven ELCA pastors and ELCA bishop Wayne Miller, ELCA Metropolitan Chicago Synod, signed a letter, along with 230 other clergy saying, "As people of faith and as citizens of Illinois, we ask you to . . . support the freedom to marry." (read here) A newspaper article in The New York Times, "Illinois Clergy Members Support Same-Sex Marriage in Letter Signed by 260" reported that the Illinois legislature is likely to take up legislation on same-sex marriage in January. Speaking to The New York Times, "The Rev. Kim L. Beckmann of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, who lives in the Chicago area, said she was drawn into the movement 'as my gay and lesbian parishioners were welcomed into our congregation.' 'I have participated in blessings of these unions for longer than we’ve even been talking about marriage,' she said. 'I’m thrilled to take this step.'” Laurie Higgins, cultural analyst for the Illinois Family Institute, who supports traditional marriage, commented that the clergy letter "is signed quite obviously by faith leaders who have adopted radical, ahistorical, heretical theological views . . . Their views are informed not by careful exegesis, but by personal desire and political convictions.” (read here) Here is a list of the ELCA leadership who signed the letter - Bishop Wayne Miller, ELCA Metropolitan Chicago Synod Rev. The cover for the January 2013 THE LUTHERAN is focused on the lead article: "The Shrinking Church." In reading the article, there was no mention of the ELCA's ambiguous and revisionist approaches to scripture that may be driving folks out the door. So it goes.

I attend An ELCA Church because my wife, daughter, and 2 grandchildren were baptized at one a couple of years ago. I am the lone voice against abortion and also a voice defending the Biblical view of marriage between one man and one woman. If some one does not speak biblical truth to these leaders then no one will ever hear it. Sometimes the most lost are people in these liberal churches. Abortion is murder everytime it is tried. Before God formed us in the womb he knew us. Some good people in these churches just seperated from the truth.

My immediate thought is this: The seminarys need to teach a course entitled, "The Anatomy and Physiology of the Human Reproductive System and how to Keep it Holy" based on Biblical Standards.

Don't know if you saw this -- it's pretty good. I think sooner or later the Natural Law will kick in and people will wake up.

Dan, the column you posted (by Andrew Comiskey) has a wise and Biblical response to the erring ELCA pastors and leaders.

Hard to snatch them from the fire if you do not go to one of these Liberal churches. I fight the good fight from within one of these ECLA churches Clearly loudly and boldly. Bless you brother for your Biblical truths . Besides abortion and gay marriage They do do exchange the truth of God for a lie and worship created things such as the earth. and global warming they think their politicians can change the weather.instead of worshiping God the Creator.

How about abortion? And the gun debate is so unbelievable. How can this countries top administration justify their support of hundreds of children being killed in the womb every day and have the audacity to suggest confiscating guns? Why don't they support reducing the violence where it starts and where are the mainline protestant churches on this? The country is lost because those given moral authority are either misled or choose silence. This is unconscienable. Clergy must study the history of violence against women and children and address the issue where ever possible including from the pulpits.
