LGBTQ Movement Empowered By God According To ELCA

An article in the ELCA magazine Living Lutheran and posted on the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America Facebook page claims God's empowerment in the LGBTQ 'movement.' The article states:

"We call this an LGBTQ 'movement' and that image is apt. None of us are ever there at 'the beginning' of the movement, since the beginning is when God spoke the heavens and earth into being. We only enter this movement because of Christ’s redemption. Empowered by the Spirit, we move this movement along with our words and our actions, and eventually we pass it along to the next generation." (See here)

The ELCA continues to push its liberal, anti-Biblical, LGBTQ views on its membership and two of the ways they do so is through their publications and social media.

I never give up hope but years back when I had occasion to be reading this magazine, even then I called it The ELCA Pride Magazine. One day, they will meet The Truth.

ELCA deacon, author of the referenced "Living Lutheran" article: ". . .I’ve felt the same way about the Lutheran LGBTQ movement. In 1990, Jeff Johnson, Phyllis Zillhart and Ruth Frost were ordained in the newly formed Evangelical Lutheran Church in America—and pretty immediately put on trial. The pastors were defrocked, and the congregations that called them were expelled. This moment set in motion a decadeslong [sic] movement to change the ELCA’s policy regarding ordination."

Before the Apostasy of '09:
ELCA Conference of Bishops, 1993: "Neither the scriptures nor the Lutheran Confessions grant any authorization to the church to recognize as divinely approved any relationship other than the marriage of one man and one woman for the full expression of human sexuality. . .there is basis neither in Scripture nor tradition for the establishment of an official ceremony by this church for the blessing of a homosexual relationship. We, therefore, do not approve such a ceremony.."

The Apostle James' rebuke of the cowardly ELCA: "You adulterous people! Don't you know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? So whoever wants to be the friend of the world becomes the enemy of God." [James 4:4]

So the ELCA claims God is the author of sexual sin He expressly condemns in His Word. There truly is "no fear of God before their eyes." [Romans 3:18] While God loves all of his creation and offers forgiveness to those who repent and turn away from their sins, those who continue in deliberate, unrepentant sin "have neither seen Him [Jesus] nor known Him."[1 John 3:6]

Pastor Steve Wilkins writes:
". . . apostasy doesn’t 'just happen.' Apostasy is the result of an extended period of compromise, disobedience, and unbelief that culminates in a denial of Christ not to be repented of. In other words, no one apostatizes, unless he wants to and is willing to work at it. And therefore apostasy catches no one by surprise. It’s the result of an intentional, purposeful, and persistent choice to depart from Jesus and the faith. Apostasy is something that a person who is sincerely loving Jesus and seeking to be faithful to Him need never fear."

David Guzik notes about 1 John 3:6
. . ."Whoever abides in Him does not sin": John’s message is plain and consistent with the rest of the Scriptures. It tells us that a life style of habitual sin is inconsistent with a life of abiding in Jesus Christ. A true Christian can only be temporarily in a life style of sin.

Paul’s teaching in Romans 6 is a great example of this principle. He shows us that when a person comes to Jesus, when his sins are forgiven and God’s grace is extended to him, he is radically changed - the old man is dead, and the new man lives. So it is utterly incompatible for a new creation in Christ to be comfortable in habitual sin; such a place can only be temporary for the Christian.

In some ways, the question is not “Do you sin or not?” We each sin. The question is, “How do you react when you sin? Do you give in to the pattern of sin, and let it dominate your lifestyle? Or do you humbly confess your sin, and do battle against it with the power Jesus can give?”

. . ."Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him": To live a lifestyle of habitual sin is to demonstrate that you have not seen Him (in a present sense of the ultimate "seeing Him" mentioned in 1 John 3:2), and that you have not known Him. There are some people so great and so wonderful that seeing them or knowing them will change your life forever. Jesus is that kind of person.

For Confessional Lutherans such as myself, the best use of the Living Lutheran magazine, is as wrapping paper for smelly garbage.
By the way, Wikipedia estimates that ELCA membership has fallen below 3 million. At that rate it will fall below LCMS membership before 2030.

Hmmm . , , For me, it all comes down to this: "Well done thou and faithful servant!" or "I never knew you; Depart from me, you workers of lawlessness!". . .Please tell me, Living Lutheran, if I join the LGBTQ movement, thanking God that, guided by the ELCA, I'm doing the Christ-like thing (unlike those "Other Lutherans" past and present), then die and become a Dead Lutheran, which verse am I going to hear?
