"I think what we need are Christians who are serious Christians. I think we had a cultural Christianity in America...but to have people who go to church but don't really know why or don't really believe those things, we've got a lot of those. I call them Mainline Protestants... but most people who go to Mainline Protestant churches, why have they ceased going? Because at some point it became culturally acceptable to stay home on Sunday because 'nobody believes that stuff anyway.'" - Eric Metaxas

There are only a few avid bible readers among my Lutheran friends and relatives. Many don't even know the basics of the gospels or scriptures. They go to church, but seem to have little desire to learn much more. They believe what they are told from the pulpit, and don't fact check anything, leaving them vulnerable to deceitful (secular) spirits within the church. Unfortunately, I don't know how to fix this.

I recently listened to an interview with Mark Steyn at the Hoover Institute on youube. Being a native Brit, he refers to the Anglican church which in the US, is called Episcopalian. They quoted a line from his book, I can't remember it verbatim but this is close "mainline Protestants who believe if JESUS was here on Earth today he'd be an openly gay Anglican Bishop in a committed relationship who drives an environmentally friendly car with a bumper sticker that says "Arms are for Hugging"

What's more important than children? I think that the left-wing answers are two: "Social justice" and "Preserving the planet."

I know a lot of families who belong to a church and generally go on most Sundays. But as time goes on they are less and less religious. They hear about "God's love" and to "live generously", but really don't know any theology. To them church is more of a social club. So what happens next? They or their children decide they'd rather sleep in on Sunday morning. And the next generation after that will be outright Atheist if not also anti-Christian bigots.
