The statement below is written by an ELCA pastor who posted this on an ELCA facebook page -
“After last night I am close to despair. There are so many now who will be out of the scope of concern in policy and practice. More time will be wasted trying to take new health insurance from those newly covered. Keystone will probably be approved to the detriment of the land, creatures and people from whom it will be taken. National parks and sanctuaries will be in danger. Safety nets will be cut to pay back the money poured into this election. Any new Supreme Court justices will be anti Roe v Wade and pro Citizen's United. Global climate change is now in the hands of people don't believe in science and creationism will be supported in science classrooms.... These are the platforms that our newly elected politicians won on. I am so disappointed that we are the self elevating, it's all about me, to Hell with the poor nation owned by money. Here is Iowa we now have Steve King and Joni Ernst in Washington. As John Steward said, last night money won. Ideas lost. As advocates for the least among us we will need to be vigilant and even more counter cultural. Kyrie eleison.” 60 ELCA people “liked” this post. Anybody else have problems with this ELCA pastor's lament?

As has been said many times before, the ELCA is indistinguishable from the Democratic Party. What jumped out at me was the comment about Roe v Wade. The ELCA's unquestioned assumption seems to be that Roe v Wade and abortion are good.

According to Wikepedia Joni Ernst is an ELCA Lutheran.

Wow. Just wow. This is coming from a Pastor? Does this man really believe that his fellow Lutherans (of which I am one) can only be motivated by "self-elevating,it's all about me, to Hell with the poor nation owned by money" if they vote Conservative/Republican? I would submit that for us Conservative Lutherans WE in fact vote for ideas; among them the notion that God has given us freedom and free-will, and that we are not meant to live in a debasing (for that is what it is) welfare state that has only increased the number of poor in America. I would also submit that the good Pastor really cares little for the poor in his support for policies that can only increase the cost of energy. His apparent support for abortion has already been noted. I am quite happy not to share his "ideas" as a concerned Christian.

While preborn babies breathe a slight sigh of relief with the elections of a good number of pro-life Senators and Representatives, this ELCA wolf in pastor’s clothing whines that these little ones, known by God and fashioned by Him in the womb [Psalm 139], may henceforth not be so easily sacrificed on Roe v Wade's and Planned Parenthood's altar of “choice.” He’s no doubt feeling a little mollified that his own Ersatz Lutheran Church in America will continue to fund abortion for any reason up to 20 weeks in its self-funded health plan. Shouldn't all Lutheran pastors oppose Rowe v. Wade? We all have our political opinions, but there are some things we should agree upon, and one of those things is the preciousness of babies in the womb.

People are more likely to join denominations by political leanings than by doctrinal agreements. Weird, sad, but true. So if someone who is Republican is looking for a church home, they would choose the LCMS over the ELCA even if they may believe everyone goes to heaven.

I am a former ELCA member now in the LCMS. I have been pro-life ever since 1973. I also believe that for Christians with same-sex attraction, their particular affliction of sin calls for being confessed and absolved. NOT blessed, as resolved by the ELCA. Jesus died for all sinners, and all sins, and He seeks that those who trust in Him are to live a life of repentance, rather than to delude themselves into thinking their sins are not sins, however hard they may be to avoid. And I believe that faith in Jesus is the only Way to eternal life. As to the exact nature of God's eternal punishment we may speculate, but Jesus sternly warned us about Hell more than He reassured us about Heaven, so we must take Him at His word that Hell is real, and to be avoided at all cost. And since leaders in the Church are held to a higher standard, those in ecclesiastical authority who would lead people from the true faith to the lies of human beings are destined to a more severe punishment than those they led astray. Any pastor who preaches universal salvation is clearly in danger of forfeiting their own salvation.

Matthew 10:34. "Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword.
