ELCA Pastor Says Homosexual Couple Reunited in Heaven

If you Google "Resurrection Lutheran Church Chicago" you will find a very, very pro-homosexual ELCA congregation.

Pastor Brian Hiortdahl wrote this about a homosexual member who died:

"Frank recounted his heartbreak for Richard, his beloved partner, as he watched him die slowly of AIDS. Today Frank and Richard are reunited in God's embrace. But before he died, Frank left us two remarkable gifts." (see here)

The pastor then goes on to say Frank left the church a generous bequest of money.

Reunited in heaven? The Bible teaches that those who persist in impenitent sin will not be saved, including the sin of homosexual behavior (I Corinthians 6:9-11). How tragic that a pastor would tell people that they can live in impenitent sin and go to heaven. I am sure, however, that this pastor would not say homosexual behavior is a sin. That is what happens when people refuse to submit to the authority of Scripture. They make things up as they go.

This article has hit a nerve. Shocking are the comments from the ELCA Clergy private facebook page. Look at the comments toward the bottom (in reference to this Exposing the ELCA blogpost)-

The idea of Heaven being populated by queers singing Broadway in a chorus line is touted by one member. Then it is supported as a PROPHETIC WORD.

These are ostensibly clergy members who think like this!

Heaven is not populated by angels and saints singing praises to God Almighty....
no, Heaven is populated by queers dancing in a chorus link, singing Broadway showtunes.

Evidently ELCA pastors reject the general idea that sinners in heaven will have been cleansed from their unrighteousness (1 John 1:9), and promote the idea that lechers will eternally revel in their perversion. That sounds to me more like hell.

We anxiously await your take on LTSP and LTSG announcement yesterday, that both seminaries will shutter in 2017, and one new seminary will emerge, with two campuses.

Once again, the Bible and Martin Luther shoot mammoth holes in the Ersatz Lutheran Church in America's favorite world-pleasing apostasy:

Nor may we in our works and in our daily life tolerate the yielding to the wantonness of the flesh and at the same boast the Gospel of Christ, as did the Corinthians, who stirred up among themselves divisions and disorder, even to the extent of one marrying his stepmother. In such matters as these, Paul says, a little leaven leavens and ruins the whole lump - the entire Christian life. I left the ELCA for its acceptance of same-sex activity as good and proper, rather than the serious sin which it is.

In my own assessment of the nature of homosexuality, I see same-sex activity which is chosen (pederasty, sodomy in prisons) and that which is not chosen, due to what I believe is an incurable mental illness that is a result of the Fall.

And I thank God for Pastor Brock, that He has given him the power to abstain from that sin which Satan, through a damaged-by-the-Fall biology, has tempted him to do. But by the same token, I pray that Jesus would forgive the sins which some who believe in Him are unable to repent from, hard as they try. I realize that in my own life, I have sometimes had thoughts which I thought were morally right, when in fact they were wrong.

Please don't think I'm trying to make an excuse for homosexuals, that it's okay what they're doing. I'm just hoping that the grace of Jesus Christ would forgive sins that don't seem like sins. I'm not suggesting in the least that one should play dice with one's eternal salvation. I'm just hoping that Jesus would be pleading before the Father, "Forgive them, Lord, they cannot help what they do!"

So, while I am saddened that these two men died in unrepentant mortal sin, and may very well be seeing eternal punishment rather than life, I hope that they were still be saved in spite of their sin, or that they repented before they died. But that's for God alone to know.

Two final notes: On a documentary about the United Methodist Church, one young gay man lamented over thinking himself to be unredeemable from his Baptist upbringing. Indeed, this was the Law crushing him, If only his pastors would request him to avail himself of Confession and Absolution, followed by a life of attempting to repent, he could still be saved by the Gospel.

This brings up the following: Those church leaders who blessed same-sex relationships are guilty of leading precious sheep of the Good Shepherd away from the flock. And as leaders, they will face the stricter judgment on the Day of the Lord. So if the gay men were not forgiven and are indeed experiencing God's wrath, how much worse will the punishment be for these men's pastors, who failed to warn them about the gravity of their sins?
