ELCA Pastor Doesn't Care If Members Believe In Jesus' Physical Resurrection

ELCA pastor Lynnae Sorensen made this stunning statement when giving her Easter sermon:

“It doesn't matter to me if you believe in the physical or a spiritual resurrection. It doesn't matter to me if you believe in an apparition or a vision or some other kind of mystery. What matters to me is if your belief is lived out in your faith.” (see video below)

Lynnae Sorensen is the senior pastor at Abiding Love Lutheran Church in Austin, Texas. Her seminary schooling was through “The Lutheran Seminary Program in the Southwest, an extension program of the ELCA’s Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago and Wartburg Theological Seminary.” Before becoming an ELCA pastor Lynnae, “worked in youth ministry, campus ministry and as an ELCA missionary in Slovakia for five years.” (read here)

What does your ELCA educated pastor believe about Jesus' resurrection and why is Rev. Sorensen's thinking on the resurrection allowed in the ELCA and its seminaries?

How much better -- salvific, even -- it would be if the unfortunate souls languishing under the ELCA's heretical preaching and teaching were to kick out their Pastor Postmodern Revisionist and hire a part-timer to preach nothing but Martin Luther's sermons.

Like this Martin Luther sermon, for (excerpted) example:

"This Gospel therefore shows the following: First, that the [resurrected] Lord stands among the disciples and is now strong, having overcome sin, death, and the devil; but they do not stand as yet, but sit there, and he comes and stands in the midst of them. Where does he stand at the present time? In the midst of the weak and fainthearted company, that sit in fear and weakness, while he is strong and mighty, though it is not yet apparent to the world. But even though the world does not see it, God sees it. Second, he shows them his hands and his feet, and comforts them, saying: "Why are ye troubled? and wherefore do questionings arise in your hearts? See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me and see; for a spirit has not flesh and bones," etc. . . .

". . .Thus you have heard what the Gospel is, and what repentance and forgiveness of sins are, whereby we enter into another, a new state, out of the old. But take heed, lest you trust in this and become sluggish, thinking that when you sin there is no danger, and thus boldly persist in sin. This would be sinning in spite of God's mercy and would tempt God. But if desire to be delivered from sin, it is well with you, and all is forgiven. So much then on the second part of this Gospel, and with it we shall for the present content ourselves.”

Why even call yourself Lutheran if you don't believe what Luther said?

In fact, why even call yourself Christian if you don't believe the accounts of the resurrection in the Bible?

St. Paul writes: "Now if Christ is preached that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen. And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is also vain. Yes, and we are found false witnesses of God, because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ, whom He did not raise up - in fact if the dead do not rise. For if the dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen. And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins! Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most pitiable." (I Corinthians 15:12-19)

This deluded woman is denying Christ in her sermon, and if indeed the members of her congregation cannot believe in the Resurrection of Christ, then there is no need for having a church there. Just take down the cross, forget Holy Communion, since there is no risen Lord in, under and with the bread and wine. Take out the font, since there is no Resurrection of Christ to raise us to new life. Just invite people of all faiths together to hear a sermon that goes "God is nice, God wants you to be nice, go out and be nice!" Salvation by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, the saving Gospel, has been abandoned for "Believe what ever you want, as long as you are sincere. Do whatever you want, as long as you are being nice."

Indeed, as a teacher of God's Word, this woman is entrusted with much, and she has squandered it all. And teachers will be judged more severely than the common laymen. We need to pray for her soul, and of those souls under her care. If she continues on this highway to Hell on which she's speeding along, I pray that she will heed the sign that Jesus built one narrow exit ramp for her and get off that road which leads to destruction and to repent and believe His Gospel. You cannot be a Christian if you do not believe that He rose from the dead. "If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, then you will be saved."

St. Paul concludes "But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. And at the beginning of Chapter 15 he says "For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received; that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures."

This deepening apostasy of the ELCA and other church bodies is truly shocking. Pray, brothers and sisters, that the Holy Spirit would lead these people away from these false shepherds, back into the Good Shepherd Jesus' flock. And pray that these false shepherds would repent. God will not be mocked; there is a dreadful punishment awaiting for false teachers. Oh, that she would turn from her error and receive back the eternal life Jesus gave her in Holy Baptism, which she has cast aside by minimizing the central doctrine of the Christian faith, the very Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ...

After his resurrection, Jesus had A body; it was not a NATURAL human body. Preachers bent on describing it as a "reanimated corpse" aren't reading their Bibles carefully.

"When you sow, you do not plant the body that will be, but just a seed.... So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable..., it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body." (1 Cor. 15:37, 42, 44)
