ELCA Lutheran denomination has zeal for social issues, but not for the salvation of the lost…

Below is the latest news item from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Yes, we should all be against racism, but I have a friend who left his ELCA church because of the constant mention of white supremacy from the pulpit. Look through the news releases at elca.org and you will see liberal politics and various social issues mentioned regularly but rarely anything about evangelism, missions and bringing lost people to Christ. Indeed, Elizabeth Eaton, head Bishop of the ELCA, has said that if hell exists, she believes it is empty. So, if everybody is going to heaven, what will the ELCA do with its time and money? Promote liberal politics. This was never more evident than when some states were passing minor restrictions on abortion and Eaton reminded people that the ELCA supports abortion rights. Indeed, the ELCA pays for abortions for any reason whatsoever in its denomination’s healthcare plan, which is funded by offering dollars.

'Mainline Protestantism Declared A Safe Space For Those Offended By The Gospel'

[. . .] Speaking on behalf of a plethora of denominations including the Presbyterian Church (USA), the Episcopal Church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, and the United Methodist Church, a spokesperson issued the following statement: "We are in agreement that there is a great need for churches to rise up and create spaces that are safe for questioning and accepting our identities, doubts, fears, failures, and blatant sins. Effective immediately, we are declaring all mainline Protestant churches safe spaces, where there are no judgments, conviction, repentance, or gospel presentations whatsoever.”

The statement listed elements that safe space churches should remove from their premises, including "crosses, Bibles, pulpits, organs, hymnals, systematic theologies, and sermons exhibiting any form of triggering micro-aggression. Be considerate." Words like "sin," "hell," "death," "wrath," "propitiation," and "substitutionary atonement" are also on the ban list.

On behalf of all of mainline Protestantism, the spokesperson expressed heartfelt joy that they were able to make such a major step toward accepting - and not judging - anyone who may be on a path toward God's judgment. "Our congregations are now spaces that are safe from the power of God in the gospel, where each person is free to construct their own narrative. That's worthy of celebration."

The Babylon Bee is satire

We know that. Satire is invariably pokes fun at specific foibles or flaws in people or institutions. The Babylon Bee's mordant satire of pretend churches like the ELCA and other withering mainline Protestant denominations does reflect the truth of those churches' abandonment of and haughty disdain for the tenets of Biblical Christianity. What the Bee comedically exaggerates is nonetheless based on facts of those churches' non-Biblical practices.

For example, the Bee's statement -- "Words like "sin," "hell," "death," "wrath," "propitiation," and "substitutionary atonement" are also on the ban list." -- accurately reflects the facts that

(a) the ELCA has in practice recategorized and does in fact promote sexual sins that the Bible plainly says will keep the unrepentant sinner out of the kingdom of heaven
and
(b) the ELCA's presiding bishop has said -- contra Jesus' plain teaching -- that if there is a hell, she thinks it's empty.
