ELCA Love for Planned Parenthood

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's strong pro-abortion position can be seen in their policies, actions, non-actions and by what their leadership says. I'd like to share with you what ELCA leaders are saying on their social media pages about Planned Parenthood and abortion:

ELCA Campus Pastor Casey Kloehn wrote a blog called "Abortion, actually." In it she writes:

"I am already tired of fighting against those who have spent my entire life (as well as the decade before my birth) trying to undo the protections that decision provides."

"I'm tired of feigning apology for where I stand."

"I'm tired of men who have systematically threatened, oppressed, and injured women (for decades, centuries, millennia) through legislation, regulation, and theology."

"...women who have had abortions do not need your forgiveness."

"I stand with Planned Parenthood."

"Women should have safe access to abortion on demand."

"Even if Planned Parenthood was first and foremost an abortion provider, I would stand with them.

I stand with every woman who is considering, has considered, will consider, is choosing, has chosen, or will choose abortion.

Not in spite of my education, not in spite of my Christianity but--straight up--because of those privileges and commitments, I stand with women. I stand with Planned Parenthood."

ELCA Pastor Scott Alan Johnson, Story City, IA wrote this in his blog:

"I'd like to see picket lines at clinics which provide abortion procedures made illegal, defined as an act of terrorism and as such no longer defensible under the right to free speech as set out in the 1st Amendment."

"Let's face it: Roe v. Wade is not going to be reversed. Frankly, it shouldn't be". (see here)

Recently Pastor Johnson tweeted his joy at people donating to abortion provider Planned Parenthood in the name of the strong pro-life Vice-President elect Mike Pence. See below.

ELCA Pastor Joelle Colville-Hanson is the Director for Evangelical Mission at the Northeastern Iowa Synod and she tweeted this last week:

ELCA pastor Robert Franek, from Illinois retweeted the following from NARAL Pro-Choice America:

Rozella Haydée White is the former Director for Young Adult Ministry for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Days ago she tweeted this:

Early this year Pastor Tom Brock wrote a blog titled "An ELCA leader supports Planned Parenthood" (see here) where he writes:

"Inez Torres Davis is the Director of Justice for Women of the ELCA (WELCA). On her Facebook page she has a photo that says 'I stand with Planned Parenthood.' These are difficult days to stand with the nation's largest abortion provider, given the grisley facts that came out in the news about what they do with aborted baby parts. But sadly, this ELCA leader stands with them, and the ELCA continues to pay for abortion."

The ELCA has long been a supporter of abortion. (see here and scroll down the page here) And as Pastor Brock mentioned, the ELCA even pays for abortion, for any reason, in their employee health care insurance. Today I've shown you vocal pro-abortion, pro-Planned Parenthood ELCA leaders shouting their support for Planned Parenthood. Is there any wonder Pew Research found that 65% of Mainline Lutherans (ELCA) say abortion should be legal in all/most cases. ELCA leaders have a profound influence on your thoughts and beliefs. That is a big danger in sitting under their teaching.

The real black-heartedness of the "peace and justice"-posturing ELCA is revealed in its soulless support and advocacy for aborting God's preborn creations. The Bible abounds with passages describing preborn babies as created and formed in the womb by God, and known and loved by God before their births.

Everything the ELCA says about love and justice and mercy is hypocritically nullified by its complicity in, and brazen advocacy for, murder in utero. A denomination that self-funds abortions for any reason up to twenty weeks with members' offering dollars has nothing to tell the world about God's love and mercy.

Any ELCA pastor who knows that God's Word condemns the murder of the innocent and still supports that murder -- or acquiesces to it by saying nothing about his/her denomination's sponsorship of that murder -- is a hireling, a wolf in cleric's clothing.

Peter Leithart's "Attacking the Tabernacle" outlines the wholly Biblical condemnation of the God-defying monstrosity that is abortion:

". . . Psalm 139, then, is picking up on a known thread of imagery when it compares the formation of an infant in the womb to his being “woven” like a tent curtain. In the womb, the Lord weaves the tent that the infant will “wear” until he puts it off at death. With its allusions to the roqem work of the tabernacle, the Psalm goes further, implying not only that God has made the infant in the womb, but also that the infant is being woven into a dwelling for God. Abortion attacks not only a creature of God but a house of God. The abortionist’s instruments pierce through the unfinished roqem curtains and tread on holy ground. We are talking here not only about slaughter of the innocent but about sacrilege, a direct attack on “space” claimed by God. That is the most serious offense possible. Paul’s warning hovers ominously over our nation: “If any man destroys the temple of God, God will destroy him, for the temple of God is holy.”

Lest any ELCA member or pastor think there's anything "Lutheran" about supporting and paying for abortion, Martin Luther disabuses them of that notion:

". . . In 1540 Martin Luther was lecturing on the book of Genesis, and reached chapter 25 where Abraham marries again after the death of Sarah. Luther proclaimed that ‘the begetting of children is wonderfully pleasing to [God] … He is not hostile to children, as we are.’ Then he added: ‘How great, therefore, the wickedness of human nature is! How many girls there are who prevent conception and kill and expel tender fetuses, although procreation is the work of God! Indeed, some spouses who marry and live together in a respectable manner have various ends in mind, but rarely children.’ The God who declares that we are to be fruitful and multiply regards it as a great evil when human beings destroy their offspring.

"Luther also wrote a tender little treatise, entitled Comfort for Women Who Have Had a Miscarriage, which was published in 1542. Here he sought to reassure suffering Christian women that their child did not require baptism in order to be saved. He made it clear that he was not writing for women who resented being pregnant, deliberately neglected their child, or who strangled or destroyed the child. The Christian woman had to bow before the strange providence of God, but could do so in the knowledge that her child who died in the womb had gone to heaven. To Luther, the unborn child was clearly a child."

you don't have to be a Christian (although I am) to be against abortion, you need only to have an open mind and compassion for those who can not speak. science has demonstrated what they are killing and how horrible abortion is.

Thank you for publishing these comments and the post about church leader reactions to Donald Trump, too. Its one thing to look at a national church body's actions and realize it's wrong, but people can dismiss that. To see what individual leaders are doing down at the grassroots is telling and should be eye-opening.

I don't see abortion becoming illegal in the US, but there will be common sense protections for unborn children.

A bigger victory will be changing the minds of people. Unlike 45 years ago, we know have ultrasounds. I guess one benefit of the family breakdown and change in traditional morals is that the stigma of the single mother is all but gone. Children born out of wedlock have a 100 disadvantages, but it is better than being killed.

Even if you are a rather liberal person involved in the ELCA...to align yourself with Planned Parenthood and DailyKos. And to do it so enthusiastically. I work in private enterprise. If I used my title and business outlets to promote controversial rightwing groups, I'd be fired. (for the record, I don't support far rightwing organizations, just making a point).

There have been many adoptions in my extended family going back to the 1930s. From what I know about two early adoptions (both were in the 1930s), I have reason to believe that if those pregnancies would have occurred today, the mothers would have been pressured into going to Planned Parenthood and killing the children. Both of those children grew up to accomplish great things. One was my Dad (family doesn't talk about the circumstances of his birth, but a great aunt let something slip out once).
And to see a so-called Christian church have such a cheerleader attitude about abortion.

It's amazing that these prevent parenthood shills have the nerve to call themselves "pastors," "Feminists," and "Christians!" A pro-abortionist, by definition, is an atheist. Defying God by killing babies is a horrendous, barbaric Sin! Masquerading as a Church gives them no credibility at all: True Feminists and Christians are, by definition, Pro-Life/
