ELCA Church Seeks Youth Attendance and Involvement at Concert and Presentation of Gay Man's 'Coming Out' Story

Trinity Lutheran Church in Lansdale, PA, is hosting Mikah Meyer, a gay man, who will be conducting a concert and presentation about his "coming out." Trinity Lutheran is an ELCA church and would like to have "A strong youth presence for the upcoming Mikah Meyer* concert" (See here). They are seeking 7th through 12th graders to usher for the event.

"Trinity is hosting 'Travel Beyond Convention', a cabaret style one-man show featuring Mikah Meyer, an inspiring young man and countertenor. Facebook invitation is here Mikah will be singing at both the 8:30 and 10:30 service on Sunday, April 7th. In Social Hall, beginning at 9:30 Trinity Youth will have a special opportunity to meet Mikah and hear about his faith journey. Mikah is a gay Christian whose story about coming out is integrated with his stories of exploring creation on his quest to visit all National Park Sites. Mikah’s message includes his experience of knowing God’s love for him through his struggles. While this message is important for all us to hear, it’s especially important for the younger people in our community who may be dealing with their own struggles."

Just so that a first-time visitor here won't get the wrong idea about what Christian truth means:

Same-sex romance, extramarital romance, pre-marital sex, non-consensual sex, trans-sexuality, etc., are sin (lust, not love) and thus are incompatible with Christian identity. Although Christians may have such sins in our past, and may still continue to face such temptations, we have Jesus' assurance that Holy Spirit in His people urges us to repent, to resist these temptations, and to hope for His promised life free from them. The same Gospel message applies to any and all sins. If that isn't the message, then it's not Gospel, the speaker is not Christian, the venue is not church, and let all Christians and especially youth be warned to keep a safe distance from the ELCA's voice of Sodom.

Here's the Christian truth that will rarely be heard in the ELCA, 1 Cor. 6:9-11: "Don’t you know that the unrighteous will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do not be deceived: No sexually immoral people, idolaters, adulterers, both participants in same-sex intercourse, no thieves, greedy people, drunkards, verbally abusive people, or swindlers will inherit God’s kingdom. And some of you used to be like this. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God."

. . . A third path [of not following the Good Shepherd] is one of overt compromise. In our time, nowhere is this more common than in the area of human sexuality. Professing Christians who treat Scripture like Silly Putty and decide that same-sex “marriage” is acceptable to God are refusing to follow their Shepherd.

This too shows a lack of love. There is no grace in compromising truth. There is no respect for others in affirming them in behaviors that only distance them further from their Creator. No one loves them as much as the Good Shepherd. No one else will lead them to still waters and restore their souls.

We know what happens when we refuse to follow the Shepherd and follow our own paths. We get eaten by the wolves just waiting to devour us. Worse, far worse, when we lead people away from the Shepherd, we *join the wolves*.
