ELCA Church Changes Christian Symbol Into Evolution Symbol

Yes, this is an ELCA church. Turning a symbol the represents Christianity into a symbol that represents evolution, mocks Christianity and God's Word.

The vast majority of pastors and leaders in the ELCA hold the viewpoint that God's account of creation is historically wrong. They reject it, as they do with many other parts of Scripture. Over 2400 ELCA leaders signed a Clergy letter in support of evolution and rejecting the Biblical account of creation told in the book of Genesis. (see here)

When I posted the article of the 2400 ELCA leaders, on an ELCA clergy Facebook page, Rev. Mark Molter, an ELCA pastor, responded saying: (language warning)

Evolution's compatibility with Christianity is not to any material point. Evolution is incompatible with science. It can't stand on its own, let alone relative to Christianity or anything else. Evolution-- if looked at carefully-- doesn't explain the "how" of anything. It is a presupposition looking for observational support which after at least 150 years of looking has not been found. It is one changing story after the next. If it were real science, it could be relied upon in the same way we rely upon heat to boil water or principles of aerodynamics to make planes fly. Instead, the only constant about it is that it "must" be true. It can be stripped down to about one sentence: Because today we observe many things, at one time there must have been one thing and that one thing must have morphed into the many things we observe today. There is an alternative choice for a second sentence. One is: Evolution does not deal with the origin of the initial one thing. The other is: The initial one thing came about by chance. These assertions are not supported by any real science. Its only support is the consensus of people who say it must be true-- in spite of the lack of observational support.

But, as we learned in Logic 101: One can't prove a negative. The burden is on the proponent. What is the evidence for evolution (other than the observation of many things)? Neither creationism nor evolution rely on the scientific method, as such. Both are dealing with what is referred to as "historical science," by which is meant observing what can be observed and making interpretations of the data. The scientific method cannot be applied to it for many reasons including that method's requirements for observation and repeatability. The difference between those who advocate evolution and others is that evolution supposes an entirely materialist worldview and creationism either allows for the possibility of supernatural causes or takes a supernatural cause as its a priori. But, it doesn't matter. The question is what interpretation fits what is observed. In point of fact, as nothing from earth science confirms evolution, as it is contrary to everything known about biology, and as humankind gets smarter about biology-- particularly with DNA and microbiology generally-- evolution becomes even less credible than ever. It would be nice to have explained exactly what about creationism is "just bonkers" and what about evolution makes sense.

When posters use offensive language to advance their opinions you can bet they are afraid. This ELCA pastor who represents a liberal left position on this issue is afraid that his way of seeing things just might be wrong and that God's word in the scriptures might have a different and equally valid position contrary to science.

George, well said.
The ELCA's intolerance of creationism is a thinly veiled rejection of Genesis truth. Its not about science-- if it were, these non-scientist clergy would clam up and have no more expertise than they would for chemistry or astronomy. Their only expertise is denial of scripture, so that's their contribution to the discussion.

This ELCA pastor obviously thinks he needs to correct Jesus' misbeliefs about creation and history.

What ELCA pastors and bishops describe as myths, Jesus asserted to be historical facts:
* Adam (Matt.19:4-5) & his son Abel (Luke 11:49-51) as persons
* Noah & the Flood: Matt. 24:38-39
* Jonah & the big fish: Matt. 12:40-41

To whom will you entrust your salvation, ELCA member: Jesus or your world-pleasing church that says it knows better than Jesus?

I don’t have a problem with people who believe in evolution over the literal interpretation of creation as given in the Bible. But here’s the problem with what this church is doing. Believe or not, I am friends with anti-Christian bigots. The Christian fish with the legs symbol isn’t simply a sign showing belief in evolution. Its origin is as an anti-Christian hate symbol. It was a way for Christian-haters to advertise their hate on the back on their cars.

It started with Christians, both those that believe in creation and those who go with evolution, to display their Christian faith on the backs of their cars. So anti-Christian bigots got annoyed so they went with the fish with legs on the back of their cars as a way of basically flipping off or mocking Christians.

Gods word is inerrant. To deny genesis is to deny His word. Shame on those that claim to know the Lord and deny His word....you will have a one on one with that very same Creator you deny...
