Kristen Kuempel is the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) bishop of the newly named Northwest Intermountain Synod. Bishop Kuempel took to Facebook on October 2, 2019, to comment and share an article that attacks Franklin Graham's Operation Christmas Child (OCC) organization.
The recommended article contains the assertions that "Samaritan’s Purse president Franklin Graham spews ever more hateful rhetoric about immigrants and Muslims" and that Operation Christmas Child is one of the "more toxic forms of charity." The bishop-recommended article offers additional hollow criticism and then ELCA Bishop Kristen Kuempel concludes her post with a self-serving suggestion: "If this article changes your mind about OCC but you still want to help, check out the ELCA Good Gifts program." One thing to know or remember about Operation Christmas Child is that they include a Gospel booklet, with their boxes, that shares Bible stories and invites children to follow Jesus, helping children know about our Lord and Savior. When was the last time you saw ELCA charities doing that? Another Tweet by the ELCA bishop has her attacking Franklin Graham:

Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered. Zechariah 13:7
He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth. Isaiah 53:7 Dogs have surrounded me; a band of evil men has encircled me, they have pierced my hands and my feet. Psalm 22:16 I offered my back to those who beat me, my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard; I did not hide my face from mocking and spitting. Isaiah 50:6 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart has turned to wax; it has melted away within me. My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth; you lay me in the dust of death. Psalm 22:14-15 They put gall in my food and gave me vinegar for my thirst. Psalm 69:21 All who see me mock me; they hurl insults, shaking their heads: "He trusts in the LORD; let the LORD rescue him. Let him deliver him, since he delights in him." Psalm 22:7-8 They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing. Psalm 22:18 Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, and he will divide the spoils with the strong, because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. Isaiah 53:12 With words of hatred they surround me; they attack me without cause. In return for my friendship they accuse me, but I am a man of prayer. Psalm 109:3-4 "In that day," declares the Sovereign LORD, "I will make the sun go down at noon and darken the earth in broad daylight. Amos 8:9 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Psalm 22:1 Into your hands I commit my spirit. Psalm 31:5 He protects all his bones, not one of them will be broken. Psalm 34:20 He was assigned a grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, though he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth. Isaiah 53:9 Yet it was the LORD's will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the LORD makes his life a guilt offering, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the LORD will prosper in his hand. Isaiah 53:10 You will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see decay. Psalm 16:10 After two days he will revive us; on the third day he will restore us, that we may live in his presence. Hosea 6:2 For he has not despised or disdained the suffering of the afflicted one; he has not hidden his face from him but has listened to his cry for help. Psalm 22:24 All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD, and all the families of the nations will bow down before him. Psalm 22:27 From The Jewish Jesus: Suffering Servant I wanted to share this story with you about a man who died, went to heaven and then came back. I find this, and stories like it, inspiring and encouraging to my faith. Who doesn't want to know more about what heaven is like? Or to know what to expect when we die? I hope this testimony does the same for you as it has for me.
And because this is the Exposed Blog and Exposing the ELCA website, I'd like to point out when the gentleman in this story encountered Jesus, Jesus quoted scripture to him. Also notice how God uses scripture throughout this story. The Bible is, no doubt, God's written Word. (how can we be part of a denomination that tears it apart, casts doubt on it and out right rejects it?) View Ian McCormack and The Lazarus Phenomenon I've been reading up on the ELCA's views and positions they have taken against Israel, which can be found on the "ELCA Exposed News" page. It reminded me of an experience I have while at seminary. The teacher liked to refer to people in the ELCA as evangelicals and that day she said how we are much more supportive of Israel than people like Pat Robertson. She went on to say the Pat is very anti-Jewish/Israeli. First off, I think Pat would consider himself an evangelical and I would never consider the ELCA evangelical despite them using the word in their name. But I could not believe the teacher would say that about Pat Robertson. At that time I spoke up and said, "I am very familiar with Pat Robertson. I have been watching him for over 20 years. I have never heard him say any anti-Jewish or anti-Israeli remarks, in fact he is the most supportive person of Israel you will ever find."
After reading the ELCA's view and policies against Israel, my encounter that day really makes me think "Hmmmm." |
Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. - Ephesians 5:11
