Bolz-Weber, who has talked about enjoying sex with her boyfriend, installed as ELCA’s pastor of public witness

As the newly installed first “pastor of public witness” of the liberal Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Bolz-Weber is controversial. She led 31,000 ELCA teenagers to repeat the words “I renounce the lie the queerness is anything other than beauty”. She frequently uses the F word and exposed children to a drag queen in a program at her former church. Bolz-Weber presented Gloria Steinem with a golden vagina sculpture to thank Steinem for her feminist work. The sculpture was made from melted-down purity rings that women from around the country sent to Bolz-Weber. Bolz-Weber denies that Christ died in our place to pay for our sins since she believes that would be divine child abuse on the part of God the Father.

And this is the person the ELCA is elevating to be the public face of the ELCA. You can’t make this stuff up.

Give "credit" to the ELCA for one thing: in selling out to the world, they've picked the most blatant example of a trendy, pretend "shepherd" to be their public face. If any confessional Lutherans are still on the fence about departing the ELCA, the "chaplain to Weimar America" should hasten their flight from Apostasy Central:

"She [Bolz-Weber] certainly is making a name for herself as the chaplain to Weimar America. Still, Scripture and 2,000 years of tradition are a more solid basis upon which to construct one’s Christian sexual morality than the juvenile enthusiasm of a potty-mouthed pulpit-pounder. . ."

Bolz-Weber will happily tickle the itching ears of ELCA members who want to be affirmed in their favorite sins, of course, but as her shtick stales, they'll also realize there's no need to pay a church to encourage them in unrepentant sin, and they'll join the ranks of emigrants from the ELCA as it heads toward extinction:

"The thing that strikes me most about Bolz-Weber’s theology is how utterly trite it is, and how perfectly suited it is to our therapeutic culture. Wow, the pro-abortion lady pastor who divorced her children’s father and started having robustly hydraulic sex with a man not her husband is telling Christians that chastity isn’t cool, and that God wants them to indulge in guilt-free getting-off. That’s just about the least radical thing that a pastor could say to American culture in 2019, isn’t it? She’s the left-wing version of a prosperity gospel preacher, peddling the sanctifying power of lust as surely as her right-wing counterparts peddle the sanctifying power of greed."

Give a real shepherd -- Martin Luther -- the last words on ersatz pastors:

"54. Here then we have these two, the faith and the Gospel, that these and nothing else are to be preached throughout Christendom. Let us now see who are to be the preachers and who the learners. The preachers are to be angels, that is, God's messengers, who are to lead a heavenly life, are to be constantly engaged with God's Word that they under no circumstances preach the doctrine of men. It is a most incongruous thing to be God's messenger and not to further God's message. Angelus means a messenger, and Luke calls him God's messenger (Angelus Domini). The message also is of more importance than the messenger's life. If he leads a wicked life he only injures himself, but if he brings a false message in the place of God's message, he leads astray and injures every one that hears him, and causes idolatry among the people in that they accept lies for the truth, honor men instead of God, and pray to the devil instead of to God.

In the UK, the Baptist minister Steve Chalke - who is now a militant gay-rights activist within the Christian community - said exactly the same thing, except that he used the phrase 'cosmic child abuse'. It seems that the first step off the narrow way that leads to salvation, to take a path that ends up in the bottomless swamp of heretical beliefs on the subject of sexuality, can often be the rejection of substitutionary atonement by people who think they have a better sense of moral judgement than God does. In other words, they see themselves as a god superior to the One True God.

I departed the ELCA, the church of my confirmation, long ago when their "wokeness" was more subtle. Having been hijacked by the political and theological Left & in-your-face clowns like Bolz-Weber, they are in an unmistakable death spiral. Congregations responded by stampeding -- right out the front door.
The only remaining question is: Where shall we go from here?

The relativistic "social-justice ideology" has been swallowed whole-hog by mainland Protestant denominations for more-or-less a half century. Their congregations responded to this clarion call by clearing the membership rolls and cancelling the financing.
What shall be the date of the foolish ELCA's official sinking?
The Catholicism of Pope Francis seems to be making similar ominous rumblings.
