I’d like to share some emails with you that I have received from some non-tolerant, vocal, angry ELCA supporters. Here are just a few direct quotes:
“Why not just go to seminary and pay the price for wearing the collar instead of this b******t? You really do not have the corner on the truth but somehow have grasped that you can stir the pot quite easily. Not a very Christian thing to do. Satan.” “You got to be kiddng. One assumes you represent no one. You are a fraud. No Christian would behave this wave. Your disgusting.” “Quit whining, and just leave the ELCA already. Those of us who remain members do so because we love our churches, believe the ELCA continues to follow the word of God and does so without preaching bitterness or anger (which you guys seem to love to do) and find comfort from it. Just leave, go start your own denomination and find some peace. Please.” “When did you become God and get to judge everyone else? This website is a joke and you should be very ashamed of yourselves....Just as God is of you! Jesus did not teach us to hate and judge others. Fear and intolerance is all that you are preaching. It is sad...and funny!” “Shades of Joe McCarthy! Again, have you no shame?” “God is neither male nor female, but has both masculine and feminine qualities. If God is man, then men are gods. The few instances of ELCA Female God are to recognize this. You are not exposing the ELCA. You are exposing your hate and ignorance.” I know many of you have also had this kind of anger directed at you. While it is never enjoyable to be verbally attacked, Christ warned us that this would happen. Jesus tells us in Matthew 5:11-12, “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” As far as these comments go, I will just say that God has called me to this ministry of sharing and exposing what the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America teaches, believes and promotes. The Bible tells us, “Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.” (Ephesians 5:11) It is out of love for God and love and concern for others that I, and many of you, speak out in the face of anger and ridicule.

I appreciate your posts. I'm not a Lutheran and have been a Methodist for only 3 years. But I see the same problems that you are pointing out. I think the "inclusivists" / social justice campaigners are the ones who are intolerant because they insist that everyone must adopt their beliefs and if you don't you are accused of being in the wrong and against Christ. I actually consider myself a fundamentalist which has been condemned by the ELCA leadership and by some Methodist "leaders".

You are doing a tremendous service, and I say that as a former Lutheran (now Roman Catholic). As you probably already know, the RIC was the final nail that drove me away from Lutheranism and Protestantism altogether and brought me into the arms of Holy Mother Church.

I left the Lutheran Church at about the time of the merger. I am now attending an Eastern Orthodox church, but still am concerned about what is going on. The Lutherans under Mark Hanson have yielded to the temptation to be "sophisticated." I think ELCA really stands for Ex-Lutheran Cult of Apostacy.

Wow, their is some bitterness in those comments. Don't be discouraged--keep it up. The verse you quoted about is very appropriate. The ELCA is (and has been) diverging from truth and these people who complain about your "exposing" are following the ELCA leadership to their own detriment.

Thank you for your leadership in identifying the false doctrine of the ELCA. I left this denomination a year ago after months of prayer and Biblical study. This was a very difficult decision because this was my denomination since my infant baptism nearly 70 years ago. I have concluded that the ELCA denominational leadership has been taken over by modern day intellectuals driven by their education in the science of sociology coupled with the cultural values of the people of Scandanavian descent of which I am one. Sociologists themselves say that long held cultural ideology is the most difficult to change. For example, infanticide and other behaviors for population control go back to the Viking pre Christian era. Personal responsibility for negative behavior appears to have have been undervalued. Even a child can understand that Jesus would never have engaged in or approved the behaviors that are now tolerated by the denomination. It seems so obvious. It seems to me that Jesus, the True Son of God, has been shut out. It is absolutely critical that Christians study the Gospels carefully to understand that Jesus was never a "pushover" when it came to teaching and preaching the Truth. The Bible defines good and evil. Love does not delight in evil EVER.

Dan, keep up the good work. The truth sounds like hate to those who hate the truth. Or as John 3:20 puts it, "For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed." Keep exposing them, brother Christian!

Thank you for your ministry of speaking the truth without fear of consequences. Now I realize that statement is one of judgment, but making decisions is part of life in this world. Ideally, our decisions (judgments) are informed and guided by Biblical knowledge. To me, that means living under God's judgment on my sin, not putting down another person who is not judging, but simply pointing to the judgment that the Lord has already spoken. Please do not grow weary in doing good and speaking the truth in love. Blessings, Pastor Dave
