ELCA Bishops Write in Favor of More Refugees

1/14/2020

Below are four Bishops of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America voicing their support for more refugees to be brought into the United States.

ELCA bishops from the three Texas ELCA synods released a letter urging Texas to resettle refugees in their state. (see below or here)  One of the signers of that letter, Bishop Michael Rinehart, along with the CEO of Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS) wrote a letter that was published in the Houston Chronicle making their case:

"[T]hese refugees are powerful ambassadors of our founding principles of equal opportunity, religious freedom and liberty and justice for all, and they reflect the best of Texas’ identity — generosity, hospitality, faithfulness and welcome."

"[W]e’re hopeful that the law will be on our side once again as the organization we represent, Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service, seeks a preliminary injunction against President Trump’s unconstitutional executive order."

"As the world faces the worst refugee crisis in recorded history, this would have been the time for Texas to step up, as it has in the past, and say yes to refugee resettlement...No matter what happens in court or in the statehouse, we will continue to help refugees of all faiths find safety and hope in this great state and in this great nation."  (See here or below)

Additionally, South Dakota Synod Bishop, Constanze Hagmaier, wrote a letter of gratitude to South Dakota Governor
Kristi Noem, because the governor "notified the federal government that South Dakota will continue to accept refugees who are resettled in the United States next year." (See below)

Disappointment with Texas 'opt out' of refugee resettlement expressed by bishop of @GulfCoastSynod @BreadTweet & @LIRSorg. OpEd says for some it is matter of faith or of a welcoming America but "Texas is good for refugees, and refugees are good for Texas.” https://t.co/2XuZKx4ouO

ELCA Pastor's Ugly Rants, Including Calling '#MAGA People' 'Cultists' and Accusing Them of Bigotry

1/3/2020

John Ericson is an ELCA pastor of Reformation Lutheran Church in Newport News, VA.

Below you will see some of Rev. John Ericson's Twitter posts. It is a ugly display of anger and name-calling. By my calculations, this  minister of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America averages about 10 Tweets a day and joined Twitter in September 2013.

As you can see here, the synod bishop recently preached at Rev. Ericson's church, as did the Assistant to the Bishop one month later.

Picture

Tell me all of you #MAGA people; if a Democrat got out of military service by getting a favor from a Dr. to say he had bone spurs. Wouldn't you be enraged? Why is it you will excuse @realDonaldTrump. Time to just admit it's because he shares your bigotry.

— John Ericson (@jericson1963) December 27, 2018

The #GOP and #MAGA Cultists have entirely abandoned the Constitution. They are content if they get their way, but, not for the chaos that will ensue when they set a precedent for Executive overreach. We're on our way to dictatorship if this stands.

— John Ericson (@jericson1963) February 14, 2019

Senator McConnell and other #GOP Senators are proudly telling us that they will acquit Trump regardless of the evidence. That is a blatant violation of their oath to defend the Constitution.

— John Ericson (@jericson1963) December 21, 2019

The only way to adequately describe #Trump's following is to use the word cult.

— John Ericson (@jericson1963) December 11, 2019

The legacy of a man who's sold out his country, his friend and his soul for a handful of votes. @LindseyGrahamSC https://t.co/NgrxyOcyhk

— John Ericson (@jericson1963) March 21, 2019

This is the legacy of the current #GOP. If there's a chance to support violence, they will do so every time. This is a disgrace. https://t.co/y3ViNEohYb

— John Ericson (@jericson1963) April 5, 2019

The @NYPost is a rag. A hateful, bigoted rag. It's not worth the paper it's written on.

— John Ericson (@jericson1963) April 11, 2019

History will show then when it's all said and done, the #GOP is anti-military, anti-first responders and anything but pro-life. They are only for lining their own pockets, keeping the rich increasingly so and against working people.

— John Ericson (@jericson1963) June 12, 2019

Pat Robertson and @JerryFalwellJr and @Franklin_Graham are the real life Elmer Gantry's. They are self serving, political stooges who have no interest in the gospel. They're just out to line their pockets, which is what ingratiates them to the actual politicians.

— John Ericson (@jericson1963) December 10, 2018

Can you imagine if a Democrat disrespected the FBI this way? @DevinNunes is an utter disgrace. If you voted for this guy, shame on you. https://t.co/swqMc0lwBP

— John Ericson (@jericson1963) December 11, 2019

#PrayForRHE asking God for healing and grace upon grace for a most faithful and inspiring woman. We are all better for her work.

— John Ericson (@jericson1963) April 20, 2019

You can't be as dumb as Barry Hovis without really working at it. He may be the dumbest person ever to hold public office.

— John Ericson (@jericson1963) May 18, 2019

If you were to take any evil villain from the pages of fiction they would all seem like paragons of virtue when compared to @BetsyDeVosED

— John Ericson (@jericson1963) March 27, 2019

Alex Jones is perhaps the most vile human being in the U.S. If he does not wind up in jail something is seriously wrong.

— John Ericson (@jericson1963) June 18, 2019

How can anyone professing to be a person of faith back this bigot? It's just beyond me. He is the most evil President we've had certainly in modern times. https://t.co/xdpghd1zs6

— John Ericson (@jericson1963) December 11, 2019

My biggest take away from the encounter between the students from Covington and the Native American Gentleman is that I want to sit, listen and learn from him. What amazing dignity.

— John Ericson (@jericson1963) January 19, 2019

This @LindseyGrahamSC is not the Lindsey Graham we have today. The current one has been bought. He's been compromised. He's corrupt. He's the first line of defense for a criminal administration. https://t.co/2EGBJwrndQ

— John Ericson (@jericson1963) December 15, 2018

The #Trump Administration will spend way more of our $ trying to keep out Asylum seekers with his wall and added border agents, than it would cost to feed them and process their cases. But, this really isn't about $ it's about racism and fear.

— John Ericson (@jericson1963) November 28, 2018

People backing @realDonaldTrump are backing the notion that we should not have a free press. You are empowering an egomaniac to take away the basic tenants of the Constitution. These are your freedoms, not just that of the press. Don't give away your freedom.

— John Ericson (@jericson1963) November 8, 2018

The #right claims to be #prolife but is against protecting the planet. Umm yeah sure you're pro-life.

— John Ericson (@jericson1963) September 24, 2019

#Evangelical means good news. There's little of that in American so-called evangelicalism. Time to take back the word from those who pose as Christian.

— John Ericson (@jericson1963) October 24, 2019

When all the evidence suggests one thing, the supporters of Trump will come to the opposite conclusion. This is a kind of cult mentality. It's quite scary. I never dreamed we would sink this low. #EnoughIsEnough

— John Ericson (@jericson1963) October 28, 2018

The #GOP and @realDonaldTrump and bigots like @AnnCoulter are trying to raise your fear about immigrants. But, the real threat is the hate from within. #Pittsburghshooting

— John Ericson (@jericson1963) October 27, 2018

There have been Presidents in my lifetime with whom I have disgreed, sometimes passionately so. But, no President has ever made me feel ashamed of my Country the way @realDonaldTrump does on a daily basis. The leader of the free world who acts like a petulant child.

— John Ericson (@jericson1963) August 4, 2018

When General Eisenhower went through the concentration camps he said "you've made me ashamed my name is Eisenhower". @realDonaldTrump makes us ashamed to be Americans.

— John Ericson (@jericson1963) July 21, 2018

More and more the #SBC is showing that they are the propaganda machine for the #GOP. #Pence

— John Ericson (@jericson1963) June 12, 2018

Another talking head who has no background in history pretending to be an historian. And with the typical Fox News racist slant.

— John Ericson (@jericson1963) August 6, 2019

.The idea that @realDonaldTrump could suggest that he is above the law is counter to the Constitution he swore to defend. He is the greatest danger to our democracy since the Civil War.

— John Ericson (@jericson1963) June 4, 2018

These men have openly aligned themselves with evil. They are the antithesis of the gospel. The entire church should repudiate them. @JerryFalwellJr @robertjeffress #Jesuswept pic.twitter.com/ieFhwtOYUr

— John Ericson (@jericson1963) January 13, 2018

#2020 is going to be a referendum on democracy. It will die in the U.S. if @realDonaldTrump is elected again.

An ELCA Pastor's Eucharistic Prayer for 'Pride Sunday'

12/18/2019

Evangelical Lutheran Church in America pastor Michael Coffey penned a "prayer" for churches to use when celebrating "Pride Sunday."

A part of Rev. Coffey's prayer says:

"You revealed the fullness of your love
in Jesus of Nazareth,
who loved all persons in their human dignity,
who forgave us for our failure to see your image
in all genders, all sexualities, all colors,
who suffered in solidarity with all the rejected,
who inspires us now to celebrate love
in all its wonderful forms,
who fills us with pride and gratitude
for being born this way,
and for being made new in endless grace."

See here.

Rev. Michael Coffey is the author of a book titled “Renounce, Resist, Rejoice: Being Church in the Age of Trump.”

Uber liberal pastors are the norm in the ELCA.

Courtney Smith is "a graduate student at United Lutheran Seminary (formerly Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia and Gettysburg), studying for my Masters of Divinity...(and is) on the ordination track in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) to become a pastor." (See here)

Here is some of what she has been saying on Twitter:

Fact check: Jerusalem is the Capitol of Israel.

Don’t tell me you care about the Middle East if you don’t think Palestine should be free and lifted from oppression #SOTU2019

— Courtney Smith (@cdsmith421) February 6, 2019

America is not first in my heart and it never will be. It is merely the country I live in. My faith and my God are first in my heart. #SOTU2019

— Courtney Smith (@cdsmith421) February 6, 2019

Future ELCA pastor Courtney Smith says "America is not first in my heart and it never will be. It is merely the country I live in."

Land of the free? Only if you’re a straight white male...

— Courtney Smith (@cdsmith421) July 4, 2019

I love when our churches replace two kick ass women with an old straight white male. Can we please move forward and not backward in 2019?

— Courtney Smith (@cdsmith421) May 30, 2019

Two tweets aimed at "straight white males."

Now for some of her politics:

Picture

So you’re going against nuclear disarmament and you’re going to bring about nuclear war on the world. Tell me how this is going to end well. #SOTU2019

— Courtney Smith (@cdsmith421) February 6, 2019

Don’t bring God into this. Separation of church and state. I don’t want to hear your civil religion. #SOTU2019 #civilreligion

— Courtney Smith (@cdsmith421) February 6, 2019

DONT. TELL. ME. WHAT. TO. DO. WITH. MY. BODY. Full stop. End of discussion. #SOTU2019

— Courtney Smith (@cdsmith421) February 6, 2019

Build bridges not walls. It didn’t work well in Germany. It’s not working well in Palestine. If we are supposed to be a great country, why do you think it will work here. Don’t do it. #SOTU2019

— Courtney Smith (@cdsmith421) February 6, 2019

So, I’m a pastoral kinda person, but what happened to that separation of church and state? https://t.co/dhulS5ZdUK

Spotlight on an ELCA Seminary Student

6/11/2019

What kind of pastor is the ELCA producing? And what kind of person is seeking ordination in the ELCA? Good questions all ELCA churches should ask.

A person's social media account will often tell a lot about a person. Jacob Krueger is a student at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's Wartburg Theological Seminary who is active on social media.  Here is some of what he is saying on Twitter.

Radical Grand View University Professor

4/4/2019

Kevin Gannon, a professor of history at Grand View University (an ELCA college) and the director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, is a prolific Twitter user.

Professor "Gannon, who has more than 56,000 followers on Twitter, is known to have an active Twitter presence by Grand View University and receives the tacit support of the administration. Along with fellow faculty members, Gannon said, the university president's wife, Carole Henning, acknowledged her support." (see here)

Picture
A large amount of the Grand View professor's tweets seem to be pro-Democrat, pro-liberal and anti-Republican with some foul language tossed in. Among his many retweets are controversial congresswomen Ilhan Omar and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Below are some of professor Kevin Gannon's twitter escapades beginning with a rather juvenile and ugly attack on conservative commentator and filmmaker Dinesh D'Souza:

Picture

So when someone like Dinesh D'Souza tries to own me by saying I work at a university "no one has heard of," what he's really doing (besides showing his entire ass to the internet) is disparaging my colleagues and my students. And I will not let that pass uncontested. /15

You may have a Dartmouth degree, but you've sold out everything you learned to be a grifter and a huckster. You want so badly to be seen as an intellectual but you're just a fraud. You know it, too. All you have left is trolling. And you're not even good at that.

— Kevin Gannon (@TheTattooedProf) February 28, 2019

Presiding Bishop of the ELCA is Confused In More Ways Than One

3/31/2019

ELCA Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton tweeted:

I am trying to understand the president’s decision to cut aid to Guatemala El Salvador Honduras. The rich and the governments of these countries will not bear the brunt, the poor who are leaving to seek asylum will.

— Bishop Eaton (@ELCABishopEaton) March 31, 2019

So the poor that are LEAVING Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras seeking asylum in the United States will be hurt by President Trump's decision to cut aid to those countries?

An ELCA Church's Syncretism and its Politically Obsessed Pastor

3/26/2019

Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Rockford, Illinois, is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and is located 75 miles away from ELCA headquarters in Chicago.

If you attend Emmanuel Lutheran Church you should know that they are "embracing a broader view of Jesus’ life and teachings as a path of transformation for our own individual spiritual journeys, our ReFresh service draws upon readings from the Bible and other sacred texts, poetry, dance, and song."

On Emmanuel Lutheran's website homepage they say "We are open to the uniqueness of each person's story and are about helping you discover your gifts and your calling. We seek to become compassionate servants of God, reaching out through service to heal and inspire Rockford and the world. We learn from our own Christian tradition as well as from other cultures and religions." (see here)

Mixing religions is called syncretism. This goes against God's Word. (See Deuteronomy 4:2 and Revelation 22:18-19.) That is what Emmanuel Lutheran in Rockford looks to be doing.

Below is how this ELCA church describes a couple of their services (or see here).

This same ELCA church recently hosted a Sufi Meditation Gathering, (see below) which is Islamic.

This is a video by Emmanuel Lutheran Church of church members saying what they like about the church. One young person interviewed said “I like how it accepts most religions and sexualities…It gives people a chance to just like chill without being like told, like if they are not a certain religion they can not go up for communion. It’s really accepting.”

Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Rockford, Illinois, describes itself on its home page as "PROGRESSIVE.  INCLUSIVE.  CREATIVE." (see here) Below is their LGBTQA Support information.

Robert Franek is the interim pastor at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. (See below)

ELCA pastor Franek is very passionate about politics, and he loves to share his perspectives. In one of his articles he wrote, "Currently one party, as it struggles with messaging and infighting, is fighting for the soul of our democracy. The other is a dumpster fire gas lighting the nation and enabling a president who poses a clear and present danger to our national security, civil rights, and planetary health." (Read here)

On Rev. Franek's Twitter account he made 143 tweets, retweets and replies in a 24-hour period. (11/1/18 2:55 p.m. to 11/2/18 2:55 p.m.) And he did not tweet that in one sitting. The tweets took place in at least 21 different time blocks throughout the 24-hour period.  I'd call that obsessive.

Below is some of what Rev. Franek has written or shared:

The following is a response by ELCA pastor John Sipf of Peoria, Illinois, to my tweet replying to another ELCA pastor. We were discussing this blog about an ELCA pastor giving the camera the finger and his rant against America.

ELCA pastor John Sipf regularly tweets and retweets about white people, racism, politics, Donald Trump, refugees and illegal immigrants, transgenders, abortion, etc. Below are a few examples of his activity on Twitter.

ELCA Pastor-To-Be Posting anti-Trump, Anti-Israel and Pro LGBT Comments

Kevin Beebe is an ELCA "Pastor-to-Be" studying at the ELCA's Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary. He loves to post LGBT supportive information, Palestinian propaganda against Israel, and anti-Trump materials on social media. This is the type of pastor the ELCA has, and is producing to lead your congregation.

The ELCA seminarian supports the BDS movement, which advocates boycotts, divestment, and sanctions against Israel, as you see below.

Here future pastor Beebe complains about Israel building an underground wall to prevent Palestinian terrorist tunnels used to invade and kill Israelis. That is mind-numbing stupid.

Dan G. Olson is a retired ELCA pastor living in Wisconsin. He studied at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's Luther Seminary. (Class of 1971)

We all know the ELCA seminaries are filled with liberal, Bible-rejecting seminarians waiting to become ELCA pastors. But Rev. Dan G Olson reminds us that liberal and partisan pastors have been serving the ELCA for many years. Look at what he has been posting on his Facebook page this year.  See his view of people who want to defund Planned Parenthood and believe marriage is between one man and one woman. Also notice the view of those who are supporters of President Trump in the second post.

ELCA Bishop Calls President Trump A Moron, Destructive, Ignorant and Dishonest

You pay the ELCA leadership's salary. It is time to stop do so for those that advocate a political position that is in opposition to yours. Here some examples by ELCA New England Synod bishop Jim Hazelwood:

Now that @SenJohnMcCain is gone will anyone in the @GOP have the guts to stand up to this destructive, ignorant and dishonest president?

— Jim Hazelwood (@bishophazelwood) September 4, 2018

This President is such a moron

I'd call the bishop's comment disrespectful to women. And what God-fearing Christian leader would use the acronym "Omg?"
