This is a look into some social media posts by ELCA Vicar Carla Christopher. Carla Christopher is the Director of Children, Youth, and Family Ministries at Union Lutheran Church in York, PA and is seeking a Masters of Divinity degree at the ELCA's United Lutheran Seminary - Gettysburg. Carla Christopher is also the York LGBT Center - Equality Fest, President. (see here)
Planned Parenthood participated in the event below that featured drag queens.
Carla Christopher gets the approve to move forward for ordination.
The ELCA seminary's creative liturgy class includes yoga body prayer.
The ELCA trained future pastor posts that "All love is so very beautiful."
Carla Christopher was Student Body Vice President at the ELCA's United Lutheran Seminary.
Interfaith Service in a Mosque.
Carla Christopher wrote a paper for her ELCA seminary class on "the gifts that come from being an LGBTQIA person."
Kristen Kuempel is the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) bishop of the Northwest Intermountain Synod, formally called the Eastern Washington-Idaho Synod. Bishop Kuempel is a the type of leader that is gaining in prominence in the ELCA and is comparable to ELCA pastors Nadia Bolz-Weber and Lura Groen. (read about them here and here) She is extremely liberal, swears freely, advocates for all the ELCA favorite social causes and will spout her politics.
Just a few months ago the ELCA bishop Tweeted a picture of a vibrator to her followers:
Bishop Kuempel lists her preferred pronouns on her Twitter account along with her love of hard liquor. The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America bishop's Twitter profile says "F*bombs welcome" and has a descriptive saying predominately displayed that says "Good sense of humor, dirty mind and beautiful heart. Deadly combination."
Below are some of many troubling Tweets by the ELCA bishop:
Last year the ELCA Youth Facebook page posted the following:
The ELCA page shared a pro-LGBTQIA+ guide for ELCA youth workers to use and help them minister to their youth. The guide comes from the LGBT+ organization ReconcilingWorks.
This summer Lutheran Church of the Nativity (ELCA) in North Conway, New Hampshire hosted Gay Men's Chorus. One of the lead sponsors of the event is Thrivent Financial.
Some of the money from the concert will be gifted to LGBT groups.
Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary (PLTS) celebrated their 10th anniversary of becoming a Reconciling in Christ (RIC) seminary. The first ELCA seminary to do so.
Reconciling in Christ is a designation that means they have "made a public commitment to welcome, include and celebrate lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA+) people." (See here)
Anyone wonder what Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary is teaching their students?
Below are a few Tweets from ELCA pastors or attendees of the ELCA 2019 Churchwide Assembly. In the Tweets you get a glimpse of their mindset and into what was happening at the assembly.
The Rocky Mountain Synod, ELCA took to Facebook to celebrate one of their churches becoming a Reconciling in Christ (RIC) church. "The Reconciling in Christ (RIC) Program is for congregations, synods, colleges, seminaries, and other Lutheran organizations and ministry communities who have made a public commitment to welcome, include and celebrate lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA+) people." (see here)
When have you ever seen an ELCA Synod celebrate a church for standing for Biblical marriage?
For good measure, the Northwest Washington Synod of the ELCA proudly posts pictures of "Loving Lutherans out a PRIDE in Bellingham!"
High Profile ELCA Pastor Says the 'Pro-LGBTQ+ Voice in the Church is Actually the Bible-Believing, Theologically Faithful Voice'
This is delusional. We were warned about this kind teaching in Scripture, "They say that what is right is wrong and what is wrong is right; that black is white and white is black; bitter is sweet and sweet is bitter." - Isaiah 5:20.
Jim Hazelwood, bishop of the New England Synod of ELCA recently made a video for Extraordinary Lutheran Ministries, an organization that "affirms and supports LGBTQIA+ Lutheran rostered leaders and those pursuing a call to rostered leadership, while engaging allied congregations and ministries to proclaim God’s love and seek justice for all." (See here)
In the video bishop Hazelwood said "I'm interested in finding the best leaders for our congregations period. Period. Now what I have discovered is the best leaders for our congregations in New England are oftentimes people who are LGBTQ+. And then, so that was the first thing I was looking for the best, and then they happened to be gay and I think that's really important. See the way I look at this is I think we have this opportunity to take the gifts of people and let them shine. And what I've found in my time as bishop in the New England Synod is that they are. I mean some of the most exciting and interesting and fascinating ministries are happening in congregations led by gay and queer pastors and it's fantastic. But but we wouldn't have had that opportunity if I hadn't said yes, if the church, the ELCA hadn't said yes."
The Bishop ends the vlog saying "...I'm grateful for ELM (Extraordinary Lutheran Ministries) and its partnership and all of the work that happens on behalf of the gospel of Jesus Christ here in New England and throughout the world."
Of course, practicing homosexual pastors are living in disobedience to God and in unrepentant sin. Their bishop should love them by telling and helping them turn from their sin. But in the ELCA, church leaders clap their hands, smile and praise those that need help and encouragement to leave the bondage of sin.
Luther College Ministries, run by ELCA pastors Mike Blair and Anne Edison-Albright, took part in the Decorah, Iowa Pride Parade this month. As you can see below, Luther College Ministries passionately posted on Facebook about their involvement in the Gay Pride Parade and LGBT support.
Encouraging homosexuality is not a "loving" and Godly action. True love is helping people to turn away from sinful behaviors and grow in their relationship with God. It is sad to see this ELCA ministry turn from Biblical Truth and harm students who need to know God's love and desire for them.
Luther is a college of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).
"The Holy Spirit knows what she is doing when she raises up leaders." (3:10 minute mark)
"But the Holy Spirit, well she will not be denied." (11:35 minute mark)
These are statements of the ELCA's Florida-Bahamas Synod Vice President Cheryl Stuart, given at the Florida-Bahamas Synod Assembly. (See below)
If you listen to the synod vice president's message you will hear it is mostly comprised of social justice rhetoric, including those favorable to transgenders, illegal immigrants and homosexuality.
Vice President Stuart even called the 2009 ELCA vote "to say 'Yes' to LGBTQ clergy and partner relationships staying in the pulpit," "prophetic."
This is the state of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
2019 Assembly--Report from Synod VP Cheryl Stuart from Florida-Bahamas Synod.
Calvary Lutheran Church in Federal Way, WA is had a series of free forums under the banner "Silent No More: Sex, Gender & Identity in the Church." (See more about the speaker here)
One forum is titled "Sex, God, & the Conservative Church, Erasing Shame From Sexual Intimacy": A Sociological Account." The speaker is a therapist endorsing a "sex-positive Gospel."
The other forums are called "Seeing Beauty": A Person Account. (the speaker is active in LGBTQIA organizations) and "Hitler's Pink Victims": A Historical Account.
Robert Neubert is an Evangelical Lutheran Church in America pastor in Madison, WI. A few months ago, Rev. Neubert took to social media saying he is "deeply saddened at what the Christian Church, which I call home, has done and continues to do to make people in the LGBTQ community feel guilty for who God made them to be." He also said, "Conversion Therapy needs to be outlawed throughout our nation and classified as what it is...abuse." (See here and below)
God did not make people LGBTQ and it is an act of love to help people turn from the sin of homosexuality.
This is the state of our secular society and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).
If you go to the linked post you can read the comments, which are interesting.
And below are some additional posts by ELCA pastor Robert Neubert.
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America has left the truth of Scripture and you have to wonder what that means in the local church. Here is what one ELCA youth director says about evangelical churches and Christians.
From Ferguson to Palestine, occupation is a crime."
You should read the whole post because not only does it proclaim a lie, saying Israel occupies "Palestine," but she makes no mention of the violence, terror tunnels, arson, knifing, rockets attacks and pedestrians being hit by cars, perpetrated by Palestinians.
The second Facebook post by ELCA Masters of Divinity student Elle Dowd equally contains falsehoods. She writes:
"...Michael Brown was sacrificed to the false god of white supremacy."
"...we sacrificed Jakelin Amei Rosmery Caal Maquin and Felipe Alonzo-Gomez to the false gods of nationalism and security."
"...Christian counseling centers...torture lgbtqia+ children and call it 'reparative therapy,' leading to the death of countless children."
ELCA seminary, Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago (LSTC), has taken to Facebook to shine a spotlight on some of their first-year seminary students. The below profile is of Phillip Potaczek, a Master of Divinity student. In the profile we learn Phillip is gay and has a husband.
God tells us in many places in scripture that homosexuality is a sin. We also know that God calls on us to repent of our sins. If you care about gay people you will lovingly tell them that.
Instead of encouraging repentance of homosexual relations, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America presents it as "good." People with same-sex attraction deserve to know the truth. They need to know that bondage to sin can separate them from God.
Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Rockford, Illinois, is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and is located 75 miles away from ELCA headquarters in Chicago.
If you attend Emmanuel Lutheran Church you should know that they are "embracing a broader view of Jesus’ life and teachings as a path of transformation for our own individual spiritual journeys, our ReFresh service draws upon readings from the Bible and other sacred texts, poetry, dance, and song."
On Emmanuel Lutheran's website homepage they say "We are open to the uniqueness of each person's story and are about helping you discover your gifts and your calling. We seek to become compassionate servants of God, reaching out through service to heal and inspire Rockford and the world. We learn from our own Christian tradition as well as from other cultures and religions." (see here)
Mixing religions is called syncretism. This goes against God's Word. (See Deuteronomy 4:2 and Revelation 22:18-19.) That is what Emmanuel Lutheran in Rockford looks to be doing.
Below is how this ELCA church describes a couple of their services (or see here).
This same ELCA church recently hosted a Sufi Meditation Gathering, (see below) which is Islamic.
Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Rockford, Illinois, describes itself on its home page as "PROGRESSIVE. INCLUSIVE. CREATIVE." (see here) Below is their LGBTQA Support information.
Robert Franek is the interim pastor at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. (See below)
ELCA pastor Franek is very passionate about politics, and he loves to share his perspectives. In one of his articles he wrote, "Currently one party, as it struggles with messaging and infighting, is fighting for the soul of our democracy. The other is a dumpster fire gas lighting the nation and enabling a president who poses a clear and present danger to our national security, civil rights, and planetary health." (Read here)
On Rev. Franek's Twitter account he made 143 tweets, retweets and replies in a 24-hour period. (11/1/18 2:55 p.m. to 11/2/18 2:55 p.m.) And he did not tweet that in one sitting. The tweets took place in at least 21 different time blocks throughout the 24-hour period. I'd call that obsessive.
Below is some of what Rev. Franek has written or shared:
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America transgender pastor Dr. Megan Rohrer was featured in an article and video by Cosmopolitan. (See video below. The video and article can be seen here)
Rev. Rohrer is the first transgender ordained in the ELCA and the ordination took place at a goddess worshiping ELCA church in San Francisco, known as herchurch.
Below is a Facebook post that the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago (LSTC), an ELCA seminary, shared. Under the homosexual rainbow banner, the prayer addresses the United Methodist Church (UMC), which will be voting on allowing homosexual weddings and practicing ordained homosexuals. The prayer talks about "being a more inclusive and loving church."
And read the second paragraph. The ELCA continues to push their LGBTQ supportive narrative on its membership and give no credence or equal time to the Biblical view on homosexuality and marriage.
How can anyone, who believes the Biblical view of marriage and homosexuality, feel welcome in a denomination that sees this traditional view as wrong, unloving and hurtful?
Below is a tweet by ELCA Pastor Lenny Duncan, with a "like" from ELCA Pastor Emily Scott, regarding the United Methodist Church (UMC).
