The Rocky Mountain Synod, ELCA took to Facebook to celebrate one of their churches becoming a Reconciling in Christ (RIC) church. "The Reconciling in Christ (RIC) Program is for congregations, synods, colleges, seminaries, and other Lutheran organizations and ministry communities who have made a public commitment to welcome, include and celebrate lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA+) people." When have you ever seen an ELCA Synod celebrate a church for standing for Biblical marriage?
For good measure, the Northwest Washington Synod of the ELCA proudly posts pictures of "Loving Lutherans out a PRIDE in Bellingham!"
Below you will find quotes by two ELCA bishops in support of Extraordinary Lutheran Ministries (ELM). ELM describes itself as a "professional community for publicly identified gender and sexual minority ministers and candidates" (See here )
The first quote is by Delaware-Maryland Synod Bishop William Gohl.
Extraordinary Lutheran Ministries has an article that addresses this on its website. The article shares a quote from Bishop Kirby Unti of the Northwest Washington Synod that says, “The church has entered a time when what we need are effective adaptive leaders. Our LGBTQIA+ ministers tend to be some of our best adaptive leaders. Their lives have relied upon adaptive sensibilities in order to thrive.” (See here)
