Tuhina Verma Rasche is a highly controversial and disturbing ELCA pastor. (See here) She is a co-author of the "F#ck This Sh&t" devotional and was picked to speak at an ELCA National Youth Gathering.
In her tweet below you will see that she is very happy about the newly elected ELCA bishops and by those who are being hired to work at ELCA synods. If Rev. Tuhina Verma Rasche is excited about the new leadership...
A recent news release about the ELCA Conference of Bishops referenced the newly elected bishops. The chair, Bishop William O. Gafkjen, said "Thanks to the work of the Holy Spirit and the wisdom of God's people, the Conference of Bishops is now more diverse in more ways than it has ever been... This is such an important gift, both because of the particular gifts and experiences each member of the conference brings and because it uncovers assumptions, challenges disparities and inequities, and calls for repentance and transformation in a church unaccustomed to such blessed diversity." This summer Lutheran Church of the Nativity (ELCA) in North Conway, New Hampshire hosted Gay Men's Chorus. One of the lead sponsors of the event is Thrivent Financial.
Some of the money from the concert will be gifted to LGBT groups. In a recent series of "Lenton Devotionals of LGBTQIA+ Lutherans," Micah Louwagie shared her "devotional" which in part said, "My journey of coming out as nonbinary has been a journey of discovering the life that my bones hold, and of realizing that this life is good and holy. Living into my identity has been a breath of fresh air, a renewal of the spirit in my bones. The bones I once feared were too worn and weary to carry me any farther still have plenty of life left in them. God bless these beautiful queer bones." (See here)
"Nonbinary gender is an umbrella term to describe any gender identity that does not fit into the genderbinary of male and female." (See here)
Kaitlin Pabo-Eulberg is a pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. One of her favorite terms for God is El Shaddai, which she translates as "the Breasted One."
And the following tweet is from Journey of Faith church, an ELCA church in Windsor Mill, MD. This is another example of ELCA churches and leaders referring to God as a female.
From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so. - James 3:10
Here is new ELCA pastor, Seth Rumage:
Of course, Pastor Rumage is a Nadia Bolz-Weber super fan.
And finally, Rev. Seth Rumage Retweets a comment saying Thomas Jefferson raped a 15 year old.
Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Columbus, Ohio, an ELCA church, shared their plans for the summer.
Lord of Life Lutheran Church also held an Iftar dinner. From their website, "Gather with friends as we learn from each other about traditions and commonalities of the Christian and Islamic faiths. Discussion and conversation will begin in the evening followed by dinner which will occur at sunset, a tradition during the season of Ramadan." The Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary (PLTS) Celebrates 10 Years of Being LGBT Approving (RIC)9/1/2019
Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary (PLTS) celebrated their 10th anniversary of becoming a Reconciling in Christ (RIC) seminary. The first ELCA seminary to do so.
Reconciling in Christ is a designation that means they have "made a public commitment to welcome, include and celebrate lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA+) people." (See here) Anyone wonder what Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary is teaching their students?
Below are a few Tweets from ELCA pastors or attendees of the ELCA 2019 Churchwide Assembly. In the Tweets you get a glimpse of their mindset and into what was happening at the assembly.
The Rocky Mountain Synod, ELCA took to Facebook to celebrate one of their churches becoming a Reconciling in Christ (RIC) church. "The Reconciling in Christ (RIC) Program is for congregations, synods, colleges, seminaries, and other Lutheran organizations and ministry communities who have made a public commitment to welcome, include and celebrate lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA+) people." (see here)
When have you ever seen an ELCA Synod celebrate a church for standing for Biblical marriage? For good measure, the Northwest Washington Synod of the ELCA proudly posts pictures of "Loving Lutherans out a PRIDE in Bellingham!"
This is delusional. We were warned about this kind teaching in Scripture, "They say that what is right is wrong and what is wrong is right; that black is white and white is black; bitter is sweet and sweet is bitter." - Isaiah 5:20.
ELCA seminarian Elle Dowd posted on socal media saying Evangelical Lutheran Church in America Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton "called for felony lawbreaking and civil disobedience on behalf of our undocumented neighbors."
I had never heard of "Christian Nationalism." Is it a fabricated idea used to attack conservative Christians? Here is a message about it from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's Presiding Bishop, Elizabeth Eaton: Jim Hazelwood, bishop of the New England Synod of ELCA recently made a video for Extraordinary Lutheran Ministries, an organization that "affirms and supports LGBTQIA+ Lutheran rostered leaders and those pursuing a call to rostered leadership, while engaging allied congregations and ministries to proclaim God’s love and seek justice for all." (See here) In the video bishop Hazelwood said "I'm interested in finding the best leaders for our congregations period. Period. Now what I have discovered is the best leaders for our congregations in New England are oftentimes people who are LGBTQ+. And then, so that was the first thing I was looking for the best, and then they happened to be gay and I think that's really important. See the way I look at this is I think we have this opportunity to take the gifts of people and let them shine. And what I've found in my time as bishop in the New England Synod is that they are. I mean some of the most exciting and interesting and fascinating ministries are happening in congregations led by gay and queer pastors and it's fantastic. But but we wouldn't have had that opportunity if I hadn't said yes, if the church, the ELCA hadn't said yes." The Bishop ends the vlog saying "...I'm grateful for ELM (Extraordinary Lutheran Ministries) and its partnership and all of the work that happens on behalf of the gospel of Jesus Christ here in New England and throughout the world." Of course, practicing homosexual pastors are living in disobedience to God and in unrepentant sin. Their bishop should love them by telling and helping them turn from their sin. But in the ELCA, church leaders clap their hands, smile and praise those that need help and encouragement to leave the bondage of sin. (See here)
Courtney Smith is "a graduate student at United Lutheran Seminary (formerly Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia and Gettysburg), studying for my Masters of Divinity...(and is) on the ordination track in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) to become a pastor." (See here)
Here is some of what she has been saying on Twitter: Fact check: Jerusalem is the Capitol of Israel.
Future ELCA pastor Courtney Smith says "America is not first in my heart and it never will be. It is merely the country I live in."
Two tweets aimed at "straight white males."
Now for some of her politics:
Luther College Ministries, run by ELCA pastors Mike Blair and Anne Edison-Albright, took part in the Decorah, Iowa Pride Parade this month. As you can see below, Luther College Ministries passionately posted on Facebook about their involvement in the Gay Pride Parade and LGBT support.
Encouraging homosexuality is not a "loving" and Godly action. True love is helping people to turn away from sinful behaviors and grow in their relationship with God. It is sad to see this ELCA ministry turn from Biblical Truth and harm students who need to know God's love and desire for them. Luther is a college of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).
"The Holy Spirit knows what she is doing when she raises up leaders." (3:10 minute mark)
"But the Holy Spirit, well she will not be denied." (11:35 minute mark) These are statements of the ELCA's Florida-Bahamas Synod Vice President Cheryl Stuart, given at the Florida-Bahamas Synod Assembly. (See below) If you listen to the synod vice president's message you will hear it is mostly comprised of social justice rhetoric, including those favorable to transgenders, illegal immigrants and homosexuality. Vice President Stuart even called the 2009 ELCA vote "to say 'Yes' to LGBTQ clergy and partner relationships staying in the pulpit," "prophetic." This is the state of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. 2019 Assembly--Report from Synod VP Cheryl Stuart from Florida-Bahamas Synod.
In this Tweet by Ohio Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice (Ohio RCRC) we learn that retired Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) pastor Al Debelak is a clinic escort for Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio. A clinic escort is someone who walks with people going into a Planned Parenthood clinic.
We also learn that retired ELCA Rev. Debelak is a board member of NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio. NARAL stands for National Abortion Rights Action League.
See what newly elected ELCA bishop of the Metro D.C. Synod, Leila M. Ortiz, posted on her social media two months ago.
ELCA pastor Clint Schnekloth said this on social media: Sometimes about all one can do is shake their head. Below are some additional Clint Schnekloth posts and you can read more about him here.
Calvary Lutheran Church in Federal Way, WA is had a series of free forums under the banner "Silent No More: Sex, Gender & Identity in the Church." (See more about the speaker here)
One forum is titled "Sex, God, & the Conservative Church, Erasing Shame From Sexual Intimacy": A Sociological Account." The speaker is a therapist endorsing a "sex-positive Gospel." The other forums are called "Seeing Beauty": A Person Account. (the speaker is active in LGBTQIA organizations) and "Hitler's Pink Victims": A Historical Account.
