From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so. - James 3:10
Here is new ELCA pastor, Seth Rumage:
Of course, Pastor Rumage is a Nadia Bolz-Weber super fan.
And finally, Rev. Seth Rumage Retweets a comment saying Thomas Jefferson raped a 15 year old.

Like my Mom used to say, "They talk that way because they don't have anything better to say."

When one drops a hammer on one's foot, when one has just gotten a third degree burn, when one just learned a loved one has died, those are occasions when a profanity (I think) is acceptable. When it is a profanity in every tweet, in every sermon, in every FB post then it's just inappropriate. Jesus certainly does love us for the sinners we are, but Jesus also calls us to repent and live a new way (for Him) and I think that new way includes using language that is edifying for people and building up the body of Christ. One wonders how swearing (something society does consider inappropriate most times) is edifying for people? One also has to wonder whether this pastor was cussing like a sailor in the call interview? If not then clearly he realizes that swearing is not appropriate. Does this pastor swear when in the hospital comforting someone? Does this pastor swear when speaking to a stranger on the phone? I should hope not so hopefully he will realize that profanity is not something appropriate unless the circumstance is of the absolute and utmost atrocious and even then it should be sparingly used.
