Well-Known ELCA Pastor Shares Quote Saying "There Is No Such Thing as Eternal Damnation"

Calling it a "momentous book," ELCA pastor Clint Schnekloth, a universalist (see here), shared the following quote on Facebook from the book "That All Shall Be Saved."

"There is no such thing as eternal damnation; all will be saved." (See below)

The ELCA teaches and promotes the dangerous, heretical and false belief that everyone goes to heaven, no matter if they believe and trust in Christ. So according to the ELCA people who are not Christ followers, people who worship other deity and even followers of Satan, will all go to heaven.

There is no doubt that because of the ELCA's false teaching on salvation, many people will end up in hell.

More from the we-know-better-than-Jesus clerical Gnostics in the ELCA. Universalism is an obligatory concomitant to the ELCA's endorsements of sexual sin and abortion. The ELCA says there's obviously no reason to worry about unrepentant sin (which the ELCA has recategorized) when everyone's going to heaven.

As He does with other world-pleasing ELCA doctrines, Jesus obliterates the ELCA's universalism heresy, e.g.:
"And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame than with two feet to be thrown into hell, 'where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched.’”
“Unless you believe that I am he [the Messiah, the Savior], you will die in your sins.”
"Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life. Whoever rejects the Son will not see life. Instead, the wrath of God remains on him.”

"You cannot believe in the Jesus of the Gospels and not believe in hell. Jesus doesn’t give us that option. You can also not love your neighbor and be apathetic about their spending eternity in hell. Jesus doesn’t give us that option either."

There are only two kinds of people in the end: those who say to God, “Thy will be done,” and those to whom God says, in the end, “Thy will be done.” All that are in Hell, choose it. Without that self-choice there could be no Hell. No soul that seriously and constantly desires joy will ever miss it. Those who seek find. To those who knock it is opened.

God created us to love him. But beings capable of love and automatons are two different things. The automaton has neither the capacity to love or not to love. We are not such beings. The Father honored us with the capacity either to accept his perfect love and give our feeble love in return or not to accept his love and go our own way. And, for however much it pains him, a pain we cannot understand, he does not dishonor the freedom he gave us either to love him in return or not to do so. Therefore, the converse of Lewis’ statement that “Without…self-choice there could be no Hell,” is that on account of that choice there must be hell. Hell is separation from God, and, if that’s what we want, he will not deny it.

In a sense, hell is simply a ratification of the human will. In the end, God gives all of us what we want. He’s not going to override our will simply to get what he wants. He loves and respects us too much for that. Rather than proclaim to the world that its inhabitants have no choice regarding their eternal destiny but to enjoy eternal bliss in God’s company and on his terms, isn’t it the mission of the church to proclaim that all God’s creatures do have a say in the matter? They are responsible either to rely on themselves or to follow him. He will ratify either choice. In the case of those who choose to go on without him, with a sweat-drenched face, he will confirm their choice, leaving them with nothing at all, and to those who acknowledge the need for his forgiveness and open the door to him, he will say, “Shalom, Peace be with you.” Our hope is that all will turn to him. But, it is the sin of presumption either to proclaim what others will do or what God will do in spite of the choice he has set before us all either to choose obedience, goodness, life and his blessing or to choose disobedience, evil, death and his curse. As due to our sin nature, all of us have gone our disobedient ways, but-- thanks be to God-- there is forgiveness and restoration for all who seek it, as well.
