ELCA Pastor Elle Dowd's Statement about the Bible

Rev. Dowd is a campus pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. This is what she had to say about the Bible:

"When you have a friend or loved one that you really know and trust it's okay to disagree and push back... I got to know the Bible well enough that I was able to talk back to it. And I was able to say ok, I reject this part. This is oppressive. Or time to reframe this, or time to reclaim this and totally subvert it."

She received her Biblical training from an ELCA seminary.

I didn't realize that you could reject some of God's Word based on your personal preferences. Ignoring sinful behavior that you find too oppressive certainly must make her life in a secular world much more comfortable.

Self is queen at the ELCA. No mere Bible gets to overrule what I decide is right for me. And if I decide differently tomorrow, I'm right again.

Natasha Crain understands a "progressive Christianity" that's indistinguishable from, and submissive to, the world.

"Because progressive Christians ultimately have the same source of authority as secular culture – the self – the way they see the world often dovetails with the way those who consider themselves irreligious see the world. Progressive Christians may have an added appreciation or love for Jesus relative to their secular counterparts who dismiss Him entirely, but that doesn’t necessarily play out in significant worldview differences. When the self is in charge, Jesus can start looking an awful lot like what modern culture thinks He should look like."

Sean McDowell, professor of apologetics at Biola University, writes of Ms. Crain's book: "*Faithfully Different* is a wake-up call for Christians who want to live out their faith in our secular culture. Give "credit" to the ELCA for at least openly admitting they view the Bible as no more authoritative than Heloise's Housekeeping Hints.

When Sola Feels supplants Sola Scriptura, as it has in the ELCA, ‬‪"All spiritual truths only become true once they’re filtered through and accepted by our feels..things that make us feel bad, those are wrong. While ELCA clerics jostle each other to step into the social media spotlight and proudly tout their leadership roles in the First Solipsistic Church of the Infallible Me, many members in their churches are -- thank God -- fleeing: "The ELCA itself has made clear it is on the path to collapse: by 2041, denominational officials project a Sunday morning attendance of only 16,000 worshippers."

of course she received teaching at an elca seminary.

No doubt we'd like to refuse some scripture that convicts us---BUT
if we really KNOW scripture, we listen, obey, and thank God.
I feel so sorry for these people who are so deceived.

While ELCA seminaries have long since sold out to trendy apostasy and heresy, confessionally Christian seminaries are currently being pressured by the world to wave the white flag of surrender as the "progressive" seminaries have.

Jonathan Master, President of Greenville (PCA) Presbyterian Theological Seminary [https://gpts.edu/], writes in his article 'Seminary Faithfulness' :

"The last fifty years have been marked by institutional decline, both within the church and in society more broadly. Seminaries—designed to serve Christ’s church and to raise up ministers for her—have not been immune. Often, they have been among the most notorious examples of decline. The effects of this can be devastating, resulting in generations of ministers badly taught and poorly formed. The worst could be yet to come. One friend of mine recently remarked that, when it came to the changing moral norms being pushed by the LGBTQ+ lobby and its allies, he had no confidence in any seminary that had not already publicly declared itself and taken a side.

"This might lead to a sense of despair about our seminaries. So many have fallen; can any be trusted? At the very least, it should lead to the question I am asked most frequently in my work: How can institutional faithfulness be maintained? How does a seminary avoid theological and moral decline?

"There is no single answer to this question. The roots of decline are spiritual. The effects of human sin run deep within us. These are compounded by the pressure from the outside to conform or to at least remain silent as truth is assaulted. The enemies of Christ’s church can afford to play the long game and apply pressure from all directions with mutually contradicting arguments and stands. Sustained pressure is hard to resist, and in the service of survival, it is always easiest to rationalize silence and conformity, to drift, often in initially imperceptible ways.

"Ultimately, both personal and institutional fidelity are gifts from God. Just as it is in God that we “live and move and have our being,” so it is by God’s grace that we stand and remain faithful. We must begin with this. We are contingent beings, dependent for our existence and looking to God for strength.
