ELCA Pastor, an Interfaith Champion, Running as Democrat for Iowa State Senate

7/9/2020

5 Comments

Sarah Trone Garriott is a pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America who has garnered some attention by running for a seat in the Iowa state senate (read about that here).

Rev. Trone Garriott is the Coordinator of Interfaith Engagement for the Des Moines Area Religious Council and is very involved in the interfaith movement, as you can see below.  Pastor Sarah Trone Garriott is running as a Democrat.

From her social media posts you will see she believes in a woman's "right to chose."

Additionally, a few years ago Rev. Trone Garriott joined (ELCA megachurch) Lutheran Church of Hope Sr. Pastor Mike Housholder in submitting a resolution to the ELCA's Southeastern Iowa Synod Assembly seeking to bring more refugees into the United States.  (see here
)

Abortion is an important topic to this ELCA pastor.

"Interfaith engagement"? Jesus would call that evangelism: "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you..."

But an ELCA that knows better than Jesus doesn't do evangelism because it conflicts with ELCA-preached universalism Cf. ELCA Presiding Bishop’s 2006 letter to Jews, Muslims, & Christians: ”The one God whom we worship..” http://web.archive.org/web/20070214062821/http://www.elca.org/bishop/m_060809letter.html

And how will you ever engage them, Ms. Garriot, if they're snuffed out in the womb?

"... Psalm 139, then, is picking up on a known thread of imagery when it compares the formation of an infant in the womb to his being “woven” like a tent curtain. In the womb, the Lord weaves the tent that the infant will “wear” until he puts it off at death. With its allusions to the roqem work of the tabernacle, the Psalm goes further, implying not only that God has made the infant in the womb, but also that the infant is being woven into a dwelling for God. Abortion attacks not only a creature of God but a house of God. The abortionist’s instruments pierce through the unfinished roqem curtains and tread on holy ground. We are talking here not only about slaughter of the innocent but about sacrilege, a direct attack on “space” claimed by God. That is the most serious offense possible. Paul’s warning hovers ominously over our nation: “If any man destroys the temple of God, God will destroy him, for the temple of God is holy.”

When we have left in tatters the tents God wove for Himself, how shall He dwell among us?"

The church is supposed to be above partisan politics. Religion is supposed to be about those matters on which there must be agreement: creation, judgment, redemption. Politics is supposed to be about those matters about which we may differ. (America has lost its way in that regard. Having privatized religion and put it on the shelf, politics has become not only about those matters on which we may differ and get along, but politics is now about everything. There is no good and evil, right and wrong in this world; there is only strong and weak. But, that is another matter.) The Roman Catholic church (and other church bodies) understand this. Two priests, Robert Drinan and Robert John Cornell, have served in the United States Congress. In 1980, when Pope John Paul II decreed that priests not serve in elected office, Representative Drinan withdrew from his re-election campaign, and Cornell withdrew from his bid to re-gain the seat he had lost in the 1978 Congressional election. In 1983, the prohibition on serving in governmental office was codified as section 3 of canon 285 of the Codex Iuris Canonici. But, the ELCA, rather than seeking to inform society about matters of creation, judgment and redemption, has lowered itself entirely into partisan politics. Rather than seeking to restore religion's proper role of providing answers to the questions of origins, purpose and destiny, the ELCA seems only further secular political agendas. The church (general) can never be the binding agent ("re-legio"-- to bind together) of society or the culture so long as it equates revelation with mere politics. There are only two choices: either society can look to the church for guidance on the ontological questions or the people of God can become "a separate people." The logic of the ELCA's position is that since the church in its own right has become irrelevant in the public square (religion has merged into politics), it will seek relevance in the civic realm of politics-- after all, in this post-Christian era, with religion effectively gone, the state is all there is. Don't look for ELCA leadership reign in its clerics; that leadership is leading the charge away from revealed religion into secularism wholesale. God help us!

A disturbing individual. Someone might want to clue her in that Marx, Lenin, Stalin, Mao didn’t like Christians much. But then her Christian “beliefs” are curious, at best.

The Dems clearly have a Marxist platform. Someone might ask the esteemed pastor how starving Venezuelans like living under Marxism, or people who fled Cuba, or persecuted Chinese or people standing in breadlines in the old Soviet Union.

Sorry to continually post on this article, but I’m passionate that this election means everything. Either we continue our way of life or live in communist misery. You must all know that the unstated goal of the Democrat party is to fill this country with millions upon millions of a dependent, unskilled underclass which will vote Democrat for the furtherance of their dependency, for life. This will be the ruination of this country.
