Marriage Resolution

Looney Valley Lutheran Church


Whereas, the people of Looney Valley Lutheran Church believe, teach and confess that the Holy Bible is the inspired, infallible Word of God; and

Whereas, the people of Looney Valley Lutheran Church believe, teach and confess that the Holy Scriptures are our source and norm for life; and

Whereas, the people of Looney Valley Lutheran Church abide by the Lutheran Confessional documents; and

Whereas, the Augsburg Confession Article XVI states that “Christians are necessarily bound to obey their own magistrates and laws save only when commanded to sin; for then they ought to obey God rather than men.”;and

Whereas, the people of Looney Valley Lutheran Church believe, teach and confess that Scriptural Truth followed by centuries of tradition, reminds us that the union of one man and one woman is much more than a contract. It is a sacred, lifelong union that creates an intimate community of life and life that, in turn, supports all of society; and

Whereas, as children of God, equally possessing the human dignity of being created in His image, our stand for marriage in no way disparages others - even if they disagree with us. As recipients of God’s grace, we are committed to demonstrating the love of Christ to all people; and

Whereas, the state of Minnesota has legalized civil marriage unions between individuals of the same sex; and

Whereas, this church believes that to abide by the civil laws of the state of Minnesota would be contrary to God’s Word.

Now, therefore, be it resolved that, Looney Valley Lutheran Church will only perform marriages between one man and one woman, and

Be it further resolved that, all requests for weddings at Looney Valley Lutheran Church must be approved by the pastor and the church council.
