Luther College wants its students to march in today’s gay pride parade

Decorah, Iowa, is having its annual LGBT pride parade today (October 11th) and Luther College wants its students to be a part. Luther College is a college of the liberal Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Many years ago, Norwegian immigrants founded the Iowa college to teach their young adults Christianity. They would be grieved to see what Luther College has become and they would be grieved to see themselves mentioned in the gay pride banner below. As a Lutheran pastor, I can recommend ELCA-related colleges to no one.

June is LGBT pride month, but someone has said, “It is no longer gay pride month, it is gay pride year.” Indeed, the just retired head bishop of the ELCA produced a gay pride video in which she said “We celebrate you, our LGBTQAI+ siblings, this month (June) and all year long.”

You will never hear a word from the ELCA about repentance from this sinful sexual behavior. Please check out my article. “What does the Bible say about homosexuality?“ at pastorsstudy.org. It is a point of view you never hear from an ELCA bishop or from an ELCA college.

ELCA colleges give new meaning to the word "quisling." They're sellouts of the most fawning order to the world.

… Moral cowardice takes many shapes. It can be a fear of upholding what’s good because it’s not popular in the sorry circles you run in. It can be a fear of opposing what is evil because you think it’s “judgmental” or might contradict your shallow narrative. It can take the form of tossing out insults without naming the accused because you think it’s cute or somehow gives you cover. It can be an ego-inflating desire to grab attention or intimidate others you disagree with. In all these forms and more, it’s an epidemic in American public life these days.

One hotbed of moral cowardice, if not the primary source of it, is the college campus. At a growing number of them, the far Left dominates the faculty and intimidates spineless administrations. These are the intellectual cesspools which gave birth to such perversions as “political correctness” and “cancel culture” and “safe spaces” and “critical race theory” and “snowflake” behavior and “wokeism.” It’s where students are taught that “free speech” means only the Left gets to speak freely and you should be personally offended by opposing views."

Martin Luther saw spiritual wastelands like the ELCA colleges in his day:

Luther on Galatians 6:14:”The cross of Christ has condemned everything that the world calls good, including wisdom and righteousness…Some seek honor, riches, and pleasure for the name of Jesus…Do they boast about the cross of Christ? No. Rather, they glory in the world while using the name of Christ for appearances. They end up making a mockery of it.” (LW 27:404)

"The universities need a sound and thorough reformation . . . Loose living is practised there; little is taught of the Holy Scripture or the Christian faith...But I would not advise anyone to send his son to a place where the Holy Scriptures do not come first. Every institution, where the Word of God is not taught regularly, must fail. That is why we observe the kind of people who are now and will continue to be in the universities . . . I greatly fear that the universities are but wide-open gates leading to hell, as they are not diligent in training and impressing the Holy Scripture on the young students.”

As a person who deeply believes in the sovereignty of the Holy Scriptures, I will pray that these students read their Bibles and that Holy Spirit can reach them.
