ELCA Lutheran church sign: God is a “they” who is proud of “their” LGBT children

Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. I reported on this back in January. Their church sign is on a busy highway and states “God is proud of all Their children” (in gay rainbow colors). The sign is still up after six months.

God, of course, is called “He” in the Bible. When God in Genesis 1:26 says “Let Us make man in Our image”, this has various interpretations. Perhaps it is a reference to the Trinity or to God and His angels, but to suggest it has anything to do with transgenderism and to project that on to God is simply evil. I can’t help but wonder if virtue signaling is also going on, and this congregation is telling passers-by how enlightened and compassionate they think they are. But it is never compassionate to condone impenitent sin (I Corinthians 6:9-11).

The church is a few minutes from my house and the tragedy is that years ago it had a godly, Bible-preaching pastor. But he is gone, the church stayed in the liberal ELCA, and the current pastor and church staff all list their preferred pronouns on the church website. Would that this church would respect God’s preferred pronoun.

Proud?, I doubt that word, Leviticus 18:22, 20:13, & Romans 1: 26-27. God Loves All HIS Children. Is not only more appropriate, but Correct.

This they/them garbage when referring to 1 person is insane. Reminds me of the man named Legion who was filled with multiple demons.

The Church of the Self-Exalted Me takes especial pains to continuously reassure the world that nothing it preaches and promotes would do anything to incur the world's displeasure.

Charles Spurgeon had the ELCA's number long before the ELCA came into existence: “That very church which the world likes best is sure to be that which God abhors.”

…From the get-go of creation, Scripture says, “God created man in HIS own image, in the image of God HE created him; male and female HE created them” (emphasis mine). The Old Testament continues to use singular, masculine pronouns and also describes God as “Father” (Deut. 32:6), “husband” (Isa. 54:5), and “King” (Isa. 44:6). All these terms presuppose a masculine, singular reference that justifies a corresponding pronoun.

There are some verses in Scripture that might suggest a pronoun that is not masculine. For example, the Bible occasionally refers to God with feminine characteristics. God is described as being like a mother who comforts her child (Isa. 66:13) or as a mother bear robbed of her cubs (Hosea 13:8). Notice, though, these verses are similes and refer to God *like* or *as* a mother. They are not saying God *is* a mother.

There are also some verses that might suggest a pronoun that is not singular. I mentioned earlier how gender theory advocates claim “Elohim” is a plural form, which they believe justifies they/them pronoun usage. That, however, fails to consider its grammatical usage in the Old Testament. Scholars recognize that although “Elohim” is indeed masculine plural (and can be used to refer to various deities), the term is grammatically singular when used to refer to the God of Israel. The Old Testament witness, then, doesn’t support they/them usage.
