ELCA Lutheran bishop’s Fall Gathering: Native America spirituality and a foul-mouthed, pro-choice preacher

Bishop Deborah Hutterer of the Grand Canyon Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America is hosting a Fall Gathering to inspire her pastors. One speaker will share Native American spirituality and the other speaker is a pro-abortion rights, pro-transgender pastor who has used the “f” word when preaching.

First, the Native American…
“This year, our gathering is blessed to feature Elder Perci Ami, an esteemed Hopi/Tewa grandmother, author, and storyteller. Elder Perci Ami is renowned for her work in healing broken spirits and minds through her traditional beliefs and compelling storytelling…Her journey as a healer, educator, and earth protector brings a unique and enriching perspective.”

I have a question. Is this speaker a Christian? Nowhere in the retreat’s description of her is Jesus or Christianity mentioned. To me, it sounds more like a New Age type message.

The second speaker is ELCA Pastor Andrea Roske-Metcalfe. A few years ago Roske-Metcalfe preached that church members should refer to a woman who identifies as a man as "they". She also preached at the ELCA’s Augsburg University, using the f-word, and saying that Jesus screwed up and the Syrophoenician woman had to redeem Jesus. At a pro-choice gathering she held a sign proclaiming that the Virgin Mary is evidence that we should be pro-choice and the sign called her opponents “mother-f....ers".

These are the people this Arizona bishop brings in to inspire her ELCA pastors.

The ELCA is nothing if not tractable. The denomination is teeming with ever-increasing numbers of solipsistic heresies and apostasies that spring from the febrile imaginations of secularists and religionists who are totally unmoored from the Bible.

iii. "For all" means that this faith is for everybody. We don’t have the option to simply make up our own faith and still be true to God. This faith is for all, but today, it isn’t popular to really believe in the faith once for all delivered to the saints. Instead, most people want to believe in the faith they make up as they go along and decide is right for them. More people believe in “the faith that is in my heart” than the faith once for all delivered to the saints.

iv. In the book *Habits of the Heart*, Robert Bellah and his colleagues wrote about an interview with a young nurse named Sheila Larson, whom they described as representing many Americans' experience and views on religion. Speaking about her own faith and how it operated in her life, she said: “I believe in God. I’m not a religious fanatic. I can’t remember the last time I went to church. My faith has carried me a long way. It is ‘Sheilaism.’ Just my own little voice.” We might say that this highly individualistic faith is the most popular religion in the world, but the idea that we can or should put together our own faith is wrong. Christianity is based on one faith, which was once for all delivered to the saints.

4. "For certain men [and women, in great profusion in the ELCA] have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men [and women], who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ."

a. "Certain men have crept in unnoticed": In part, this is what makes them so dangerous – they are unnoticed. No one noticed that they were dangerous. They didn’t wear a “Danger: False Teacher” name tag. These certain men [and women] probably claimed to be more Biblical than anybody else was.

Currently the ELCA is drafting a social statement on civic life and how civic activity (voting, campaigning, endorsing politicians, protesting government, ect.) should be handled by the ELCA and its members. The current draft correctly states that they do not believe that the so-called “separation of church and state” actually exists in the US consitution. So far I agree with them on that. However, they go onto state that they do not believe the ELCA should endorse any particular political candidate or “political theory” or viewpoint. Instead the religious body should only strive to hold goverment accountable for actions that go against the “faith” of the ELCA.

Whoa, hold on now. How can they say that they arent pushing a particular polical view or endorsing a particular candidate when so many ELCA rostered leaders are very vocal about being pro-choice and pro-LGBT?? And what about the fact that Bishop Eaton has a tendancy to only meet with political leaders she agrees with like Nancy Pelosi?? Can you imagine her having a sit down with Trump? So what is even the point of this social statement when clearly so many rostered leaders are blasting their political views all over social media? We have seen so many examples on Exposing the ELCA of rostered leaders saying outlandish things from the pulpit, attending political ralies and protests, and being very vocal against traditional Christian values. Not to mention all of the “pastors” who openly endorse Planned Parenthood, which is a political statement in of itself.

One presidential candidate is very pro-life and the other is extremely pro-abortion. Kamala Harris, during her time as attorney general in California, went after pro-life centers for preganat women and tried to push regulations on them while loosening regulations for Planned Parenthood. Addionally she went after the whistleblowers who video-taped Planned Parenthood employees casually discussing selling body parts of aborted children. So in my opinion, Christian pastors who are not in the heretical ELCA should be shouting on rooftops that a vote for Harris/Walz is a vote for abortion and death. Love him or hate him, Trump is the only option given to pro-lifers right now. Voting independent may help one sleep at night, but it is just going to be a wasted vote.

To me it just seems ridiculous that the ELCA, who clearly is not so subtly endorsing far left candidates, is trying to pretend that an ELCA “pastor” or “bishop” can hide their political beliefs from their congregation when they are coming up to the pulpit with short purple-haired bowl cuts, rainbow flags, and a Planned Parenthood bumper sticker on their Tesla. No parishoner is so oblivious to not notice their pastor or synod’s left leaning behaviors. So if you can take communion from a pastor who endorses Planned Parenthood, you are communicating that you either dont care about the issues or you you agree with the pastor. Many of these “pastors” are citing their own “faith” while voting for politicians like Harris. But where in scripture can such a “faith” even be found???? The bible is a conservating text, plain and simple. It is really not a very open-ended book, God’s laws and teachings are very specific and clear on so many issues. The ELCA on the other hand, is a man-made religion whose “bible” is not the christian bible but rather its compendium of social statements, bylaws, synod convention minutes, and churchwide assembly discussions. Vanity, all is vanity…
